However that's not an MSAN in the photo you posted, and I believe is either a DLU or DSLAM

I give up trying to phone Telkom about getting connected to fibre........
Every single idiot I have spoken to says there is no plan to roll out FTTH in our area:wtf:

Then I wonder what Sukumani Telecommunications has done here for the last few months? Putting in expensive decorations?

Why not contact TelkomZA here on MyBB via PM or via Telkom's Facebook and Twitter accounts? I've had a lot of success with their Twitter in the past :)

I'd understand if you don't want to go through the schlep of creating a FB or Twitter account, but, if you're desperate you should try everything ;)
 
I have sent TelkomZA a total of 7 PM's already, no reply to a single one.
I don't do the Twitter thing.
I am on FB though.

I will try tomorrow again, not in the mood for it now.

There are probably a lot of PM's on MyBB for them to attend to. Try FB, they should be able to assist, but if that fails too, then Twitter is your last hope.

If you don't get the assistance you need, let me know and I'll see what I can do from my side via Twitter for you :)

Hi Bursty-dude

I can confirm that the TelkomZA reps have been very helpful for me in the past. After months of struggling with Telkom, they were the ones who came through.

I hope that you get some resolution soon.

I have sent an email. I have also tried phoning 4 times now and no luck getting anyone with at least some knowledge to answer....
I will refrain from using any more of my energy trying to talk to Telkom over the phone.

Hey Bursty-dude

I know it's not what you want to hear, but ... the contractor(s) installing the fibre infrastructure for Telkom probably have to complete the circuit and test it (in some way) before it is presented for QC by Telkom's guys. Only then will it be handed over to Telkom (assuming it passes) for them to start commissioning and connecting customers. It's a big, lumbering machine that just has to move through a very specific process at its own pace and the machine will roll right over you if you try and fight it (too much).

You could be in for another few weeks' (or months') wait. My advice ? Switch off to the FTTH roll-out and just let it happen in its own sweet time. Sounds retro (and it is) but you'll reduce your blood pressure considerably (trust me, I've been there!)

If you're really, really suffering with DSL, get yourself a Huawei B593 LTE router for R1 500, 50GB of prepaid TM data for R1800, plug in and enjoy LTE speeds similar to FTTH while you wait, starting tomorrow. Your area shows good TM LTE coverage. When FTTH finally arrives, sell the B593 or keep it as a backup.

I will burn through that 50Gb in one day and paying 1800 smackers for 50Gb of data is just stupid.
And Telkom's LTE here sucks badly. At best it can get between 8 and 10Mb. My sister has Telkom LTE for her laptop and I know how she struggles.

The only LTE service that has any decent speed here is Vodacom which will hit over 40Mb with ease.

I will rather just wait patiently until the FTTH goes live.

Last resort if said patience runs out .... PM Inertia and ask for contacts !

You will have gathered from my own posts on this thread that I very nearly signed up for 24 months on LTE because of similar hassles procuring FTTH.
Bottom line : doesn't matter whether it's copper or fibre, fixed-line with Telkom remains a hassle, both to get in the first place, and to maintain when (not if) it goes wrong. The stability, speed and low latency comes at a hassle-cost.

I also live in that light purple area. A few days ago I saw someone playing with the pole which lies in my neighbors property that feeds copper to our houses, said he was finishing the installation of fiber for telkom (between 9th and 10th street). I asked him how long it would take before I would be able to take out a line, he said around 3 weeks as telkom needs to do quality checks or something.

Its great since the fastest speed we can get on copper in this somewhat upmarket area is only 2 meg...
