How to avoid calling the Telkom call centre: other support channels

Without reading this article, I don't want to hear about their app or SMSes. They take forever to get back to you, if at all, that you're better off tearing your hair out waiting for the call centre to answer.

The really depressing part is that just a few years ago, their call centre was actually becoming decent, answering calls within minutes...

odd, the last 3 times i needed to call telkom (in the last 3 weeks) for a port reset i didn't have to go on hold and wait in a Queue. i guess i am just lucky.

Last night I made 3 calls and all of them was answered straight after the recorded menu and responses I gave.
Looks like everybody else is using the alternative contacting channels so the line are all open.

Maybe they are referring to a different Telkom Call Centre, it seems like the ISP side is really quick, called them a week or so ago to reset as well, the message about long wait times started and was abruptly ended by an agent taking my call

That article has some balls making mention that TELKOMZA on this forum is an option. Would rather wait on hold for 1 hour than PM someone who selectively decides who he/she wants to help.

The article misses the best way - move your line to an ISP, let them do the interaction with Telkom. Mine's with WebAfrica right now, and I had a major issue with it a while back; logged it late one night with their support, and they updated the ticket every day with what was going on and where Telkom was with the issue.

An idiot Telkom techie still screwed up about 4 times before they resolved it (my line was mixed up with someone, and they fixed mine, broke the other, then when the other guy complained they fixed his, broke mine) but re-logging the fault was an absolute pleasure with the ISP compared to Telkom, and you didn't get the feeling you were sending the request in to a void.

Telkom has an Android app?

I don't even trust Skype which is not installed on any of my Linux PCs nor Android devices, I trust Telkom even less than Microsoft.

I'm still surprised that Telkom actually has an Android app, times they be a changing.

Yeah logging a ticket is half of the story, feedback & fixing the problem is the other!

I cancelled my adsl line with Afrihost and they switched off my voice line as well. Logged the fault last Sunday via internet. Early this morning (Sunday 7 days later) I received an SMS and 2 hours later the technician was here, problem fixed. What am I? Surprised. :p

First off Google search got me to this conversation via this clickbait “Is Telkom 10210 free?”
Because using my Telkom cellular line I called their 10210 and burned through R100 Telkom airtime. I have also burnt through plenty of airtime calling Telkom landlines, which Telkom says are x-minutes free calls if you are using FreeMe bundles. If I check my balance it tells me I still have a pile of free Telkom to Telkom free minutes, but zero airtime.
So someone is telling pork pies.

TelkomZA always helped me with my 6 or so odd requests over the years.

Re using a different ISP, I had an Afrihost deal where they managed (NB for a fee) my Telkom DSL connection. Then in early January my connection went down. I contacted Afrihost via their WhatsApp account (which has its fair share of frustrations) and reported the fault. I heard nothing, so after 3 days WhatsApp’d them again, they said they’d reported it to Telkom but would now escalate it. 3 weeks later, after multiple WhatsApp messages to Afrihost, who were simply escalating it ever higher, I called Telkom. 2 days later a technician arrived and told me the problem was not in my property but elsewhere. He then returned to say he’d found the fault and would escalate it. Two weeks later I’m contacting both Telkom and Afrihost and it’s being escalated to even dizzier heights. But all this time Afrihost never once contacted me with a report back. They simply waited for me to ask and when I did didn’t have any information beyond “It’s been escalated.” Finally in desperation using emails, sms’s, Call Backs and call centres... someone at Telkom told me that they were not going to repair the line because Telkom had decided a few months earlier that, due to cable theft, our area would no longer get copper cable service/support and I’d have to migrate to FLTE.
I realised then that I could have just paid my neighbour the Service Fee that Afrihost was charging me, to manage my line, and I would have gotten the same results :(
