Good day,

I have had Fiber installed at my house recently. Took about 4 months from order to complete installation.

I have a connection to the internet finally but only through a cable. I have been told that the router is faulty and I need to exchange it at a telkom store . . .

I can connect to the wifi of the router, but it can't connect to the internet. If i connect a computer through a cable, I need to "birdge" the connection, then connect to the internet.

Any one have a similar problem? Other people in the know have suggested I get a wan router and this will sort everything out.

As kindly provided by telkom :

ONT - Huawei HG8245H
Router Huawei HG532f

Not 100% what you mean by bridge.

Is the PPPoE account setup correctly on the router?

The term "Bridge" was what the Telkom assistant called it.

If by PPPoE account set up? all I changed was the username and password?

Wonder if the router is not in ADSL mode.

Are you entering the account details on your computer or are you using a browser and entering the details on the router ?

Take a screenshot of the WAN portion as above.

Yes it is an ADSL Router that they gave me. I think your suspicion is correct. I was told to enter the details on the computer. Not on the browser router, as that didn't work.
I apologise for the ignorance, but how do I insert a picture onto this message.

Don't worry about the screenshot, you confirmed my suspicions.

Unfortunately I do not have one of the Telkom routers so cannot give you step by step instructions.
Will have to wait for someone else to do that.

1. Route has to be set to WAN mode not ADSL
2. Need to use a web browser and enter the login details for the isp (on the router)

So this is the suspected problem

Look at the radio button it says DSL uplink which would go through the DSL port and never work for the Fibre connection.

Changed to Ethernet uplink
Added isp credentials
Still does not work

Looks like a hardware fault on the router itself. Even with the uplink set correctly it does not make a PPPoE connection.

Is it not Mac address locked on the ONT side? When you change devices you normally need to ask the provider to release the current Mac address. It's probably bound to the PC at present.

Also presumably the cable is connected to the WAN port etc?

Hmmm .... same HG532f router, same issue. Uplink changed to ethernet. None of the LAN ports in the back are marked WAN though.

Added Internet interface under Basic>WAN, killed the TR069 telkom stuff, entered the PPPOE details .... status remains "PendingDisconnect"
