I currently have a DSTV explora with Xtraview and a dual LNB. I need to connect an openview HD decoder to this setup. When i connect the satellite cable from the explora into the OVHD decoder, I get no signal. What do I need to do to get the OVHD decoder working.

What decoder is running on the extra view part?

It seems like a smart LNB is the way out for you but answer the question 1st please

Currently I have two DSTV decoders. I have the explora and I have a standard 1110 decoder.

Make sure you actvate the openview for IS20 satellite (if using same satellite signal as DSTV) as compared to SES5 /toptv satellite.
The decoder must be activated using the cellphone by entering *120*6843*1# and then follow the menu. (The *1 before # , if connected to IS20 satellite )
see http://www.openviewhd.co.za/products

You may also need a satellite multi-switch

Your setup should be using a dstv switch. Port 1 of the switch should be taken for the extraview. Use port 2 for the OvHD. Reset OVHD decoder to factory settings and reactive decoder *120*6843*1#. Also make sure that the frequency settings are correct on the decoder.

Hi Guys

Sorry for the thread necro.

I currently have a DSTV decoder(1110 Standard Definition) which is connected to a single TV. I have a single LNB coming down from the satellite. I would like to add on an openview HD to the same TV.

I believe that openview works with the DSTV satellite.

I can think of 2 options:
1) Buy a twin LNB receiver(ie: two LNB from satellite) and attach that to the satellite then run one to DSTV and one to Openview.
2) Buy some type of splitter and splite the current single LNB coming from the satellite into the Openview and DSTV.

Any one has any experience in this or has any advice to offer?

You cannot split the one feed. Get a twin...

I have a explora connected with a smart lnb. (4 port version)

Bought a openview decoder. Which port should I connect from the Smart lnb to the openview decoder?

I managed to get an Openview setup working using the legacy port on a Smart LNB

One of the legacy ports. There are 2 available provided of course you are not using them to drive an older HD PVR.

Hi, hope some one can help me i currently hvae two OVHD decoders each in a seperate room we make use of a communal dish... I would like to add a DSTV decoder in the one room due to there being nothing there, Is this possible?

I got a new Smart LNB for my Explora - (LMX502) - this only have 2 ports.
Will I be able to connect both DSTV to one port & Openview to the other port?

with the 4 port Smart LNB, the legacy port worked for the openview, but this new LNB only have "uni ports"

Found this, that summed up connection options for OVHD and DSTV connections on the same dish\LNB.
