Warning: take proof of address when renewing your car licence

Ok, so must renew license before then....

After a few months I see the regulation just being ignored because it will cause too much of a headache for them.

I endorse this initiative. Too many people are driving around with outdated addresses. If there is one thing that irks me is when I see a province's registration number on a vehicle when I know the person is residing in a different province.

What about people who are working in the province whilst consciously keeping their official legal residence elsewhere?

I did that for a year, and will probably do so again at some point in the future.

You must be fun at parties

So what if they do. I have a Cape Town number plate and have no intention of ever getting an ugly GP plate.

Is there a difference in fees between provinces? I know some big businesses do this to save money.

It used to be illegal not to change address (I think you had 1 year grace). Not sure what it is now.

Yes, there is a difference. If I recall, Western Cape was the most expensive. Regarding the change in address. It is a legal requirement in the NRTA. The problem, it is isn't enforced.

Will this new address be shared with the fines departments?

Big possibility yes. Also, I suspect this is closely linked with a certain other Gauteng specific initiative implemented.

So tell us, considering FICA and RICA have both been complete and utter failures with regards to verifying people's addresses, how exactly are licencing departments going to get this right?

I don't know why it should affect you or bother you in anyway at all.My wifes car plates are registered in MP because thats where she has a house still and her parents live there etc and it's just way easier for us to register cars there yet we live in GP and still get all fines etc

So honestly how is this affecting your life that it irks you?:wtf:

I can attest to the revised process (Port Elizabeth area) as I suffered through it today. I thought I was prepared but got snookered by paperwork. The MyBB article only refers to form NCP, which I downloaded and completed prior to leaving home. Got to the Post Office (only place where you can renew your car license in PE) and was asked for form ALV as well. :wtf: And take along cash, you can use your bank card at the normal SAPOS counters but not at the vehicle related issies' counter(s).

Process to renew car license:

1. Find out how much cash you will need. (R744 in my case)
2. Take along a utility bill (metro water & lights account, etc.)
3. Take along your ID book.
4. Take along the old license papers or license disk
5. Complete forms ALV and NCP --> DL them here: http://www.enatis.com/index.php/dow...orms?limit=5&order=name&dir=DESC&limitstart=0
6. Stand in the queue and wait and wait and wait and wait....

EDIT: If you can, take along your own copies of your ID book and utilities account - SAPOS charges you for making copies!!

Renewed 3 Licenses today at the Post Office using the green NCP form.
I took the papers, but they didn't ask for any proof of address.
