What your ADSL ISP knows about what you do on the Internet

Nice to see the ISPs come to the party but why are there blacked out squares in article image? Which is a complete waste of space IMO.
 
Even if they did track what you did online, you could easily hide what you do by using an encrypted VPN, which, from the sounds of things, is what a lot of British people are going to start doing.
 
Internet records are stored for 3 months here .
However GCHQ in Britain has interception on all landing stations in the UK and share this information with the Americans .

Although ISPs claim not to record browsing history, they do record IP address over time. This allows antipiracy groups to send out cease and desist notices to the ISP who pass it on to the user.
 
So Multichoice cannot go to ISPs and ask for details of pirates. How will then crack down on piracy? I think they only pretend to do it.
They will need a court order, then monitor for a while who is doing what. Shame, it is gonna be difficult for them even if no one is using VPNs et al.
 
I take the answers with a pinch (or mouthful) of salt. How else do the police keep nabbing the thugs over the wires? If this is true then South Africa is a haven for those with nefarious intentions.

All of them do it. It's to cache data. Aggregation is the total for everyone so no username linked to it but it's everyones stuff and is cached on servers to make local stuff much faster and for ISPs to save money on international traffic.

Yeh, if its aggregated to that level... (less user details) - hence the question.

That is my biggest concern I mentioned it in another thread, our SA Internet landscape regrading laws and policies are pretty damn non existent which is a good thing because I fully believe the Internet should not be restricted people should not interfere. Your movie got pirated? Fck you then use better encryption or change the way you release it as to prevent stealing but don't come and shut down my freedom.


Here's my point, sooner or later the rest of the world ( America) is going to come Knocking and offer some democracy to our Internet laws and policies.

How do we prevent this?

Don't think it's called the Pretoria monitoring center :P, that's to easy it is probably called something like ikatelephony or some other ethnic shiat
