Netflix ZA Live

Quick one, if I change my region on my Samsung Smart TV to get access to the Netflix app, will I still be able to use the Showmax app, I want both?

Once the app is installed it's on.
It's the connection at the time when launching the app that will determine if it will work or not. I currently run Showmax 100% fine even with my region set to the UK. So they are not blocking connections from outside SA. It would have been a ball ache if I had to change or switch off all the time between Netflix and Showmax.

They will never block INTL incoming traffic now - I saw them advertising Showmax "Show your family overseas sot that can subscribe to kyknet series for $x a month". They want ex pats to subscribe

Netflix then explained to Fin24 that content rights prevent it from offering its whole range of shows and movies in all parts of the world.

“Many of our originals are licensed on a global basis and are available everywhere for members to watch,” Netflix’s public relations team told Fin24.

“With the likes of House of Cards, we didn’t negotiate global licences to the content and so the rights sit with other platforms. We may get them back in some of our new markets, but have nothing further to announce at this moment,” Netflix told Fin24.

The company further said that its goal is to “offer a fully global service with a global catalogue” but that it may take time to offer all its content everywhere in the world.

“The world of content licensing has traditionally been very fragmented and regionalised,” Netflix told Fin24.

“It will take some time, several years at least, to get to an offering that’s the same everywhere,” the company said.

In the meantime, Netflix said it plans to expand its content for South Africa as the service grows locally.

Ok cool, I will try it tonight but wanted to know prior to doing it. If I can have both on the TV then I think I can oficially say that my entertainment needs are satisfied. I will downgrade the DSTV to the SABC package, wife still loves 7de Laan

Like I said, I saw an advert on DSTV earlier this week where they were asking locals to "tell their overseas family about Showmax" so that they can subscribe and watch kyknet and local shows / movies.

Untested by myself though
But opening Showmax on my cellphone says "not available in your country" because Chrome uses data compression(like opera mini) through some proxy which is not South African. Swithing compression off brings me to the normal SA Showmax site.

I had DSTV for about a month after I took Netflix. And at that time only had Netflix and I cancelled DSTV. Since then I have grown my bouquet to Hulu, Netflix and Showmax. I'm waiting for the New Clarkson, Hammond and May to start on Amazon and I'll get that too. There is just so much content one can get it will keep you busy for a very long time. We're not very big TV people anyway. Well we weren't :o

Just finished " F Is For Family" on to the next series

Unotelly noob question: I see that one can add more than 1 dyndns address to unotelly for it to keep IP up to date. Does that mean I can enter my work adsl dyndns address as well as my home one?

I have set up home 100% but I also want access to Netflix US at work - will one uno account do this?

The UI on my Samsung TV is a bit crap, compared to Plex etc. Also the picture quality is like watching VHS :(

I think you're asking for problems. Each time it polls one it will transfer "ownership" to that IP, cutting off the other one.

Best bet is to ask the Unotelly rep here in his thread.
