Netflix ZA Live

So considering how little is in the SA Netflix, hardly anybody with an existing US setup would carry on paying for Netflix if they blocked VPN \ DNS trickery?

This is basically the situation:

Netflix SA < Showmax because DSTV owns too many rights
Netflix US / UK > Netflix SA / Showmax
I think Unotelly is still critical when it comes to cord cutting (or should that read disk ditching?) in SA. Netflix aside Unotelly offers access to so much more content both paid and free.

Not really.

A VOD service is more than just shows. Yeah sure ShowMax has HBO stuff, but that's it. Netflix is on everything from DVD Players, to gaming consoles. ShowMax is on neither. Then there's the recommendation engine and the ability to rate shows, creating watchlists and more.

ShowMax has a lot of features they still need to develop to catch up.

Fair point on devices - I tweeted Showmax again today and asked them to speed up a ROKU App.

While the reco engine in Netflix is a nice to have, for my money Netflix SA<Showmax

HELP: Just got home (I set up Unotelly remotely earlier today)

Pc's and Android devices access Netflix US 100%

Both ROKU 3's go to the ZA Netflix. DHCP is set correctly re DNS servers but I have read that the ROKU's insist on doing their own DNS lookups to their own hardcoded DNS servers and as you can't set a static IP to a ROKU, this is a problem.

How do I fix this? Do I have to create a new ROKU account using UNO and then relink the ROKU's?

You need to block 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 on your router. When the roku hardcoded lookups fail, they will revert to the standard dns mechanism.

Did that method via the firewall tutorial and then tried the static tutorial. Both caused Netflix on ROKU to stop working

I first tried the STATIC route method. When that failed, I undid and then tried the FIREWALL method.
Was I supposed to have BOTH methods in place?

Quick question - how would I know if I were accessing US netflix?

Either should work.
Not sure what router you have, you could also destination NAT those addresses to the Unotelly DNS addresses ;)

Netgear N300 Telkom (DGN2200) issue. I definitely did both methods correctly, just not at the same time. the ping and nslookup failed successfully respectively at the end of both tutorials.

How would I NAT to the Uno DNS's?

EDIT: just made a new ROKU account saying I was in US, now once I have linked the ROKU 3 Netflix still defaults to ZA!

thanks for the reply. may I ask another question please - do I need to change my dns on the router as well if I have changed it on my tv and tablet?

I think it better to change it on our router, that way any device connected to it will appear in that region. Unless you only want the TV or Tablet to connect to that region. For me I think it best via the router as the local sites are blocked via region, well the local ones i visit arent.

Just saw now that the Netflix App is available on Local PSN account via PS4 and assuming PS3 as well.

Anyone come right getting Netflix app on Samsung smart TV? I have a 6 series UHD and can't find it anywhere. Was also wandering if Samsung is in bed with Showmax and blocking Netflix app locally?

I had to search for it manually in the Smart Hub.

It's also missing on most of their Blu-Ray players.

If you have unotelly you could try and switch the Samsung SmartHUB to US or UK.
