Last year I bought a Gigabyte r9 270 off of the Carbonite classifieds, it was working great until a week or so ago, now all of a sudden one of the fans randomly stops spinning, causing the card to get very hot. What should I do, I have all the invoices and everything from Rectron where he bought the card?

I also posted it a thread on Carb, but if anyone can help I would really appreciate it.

Please excuse the dust, I only saw it after the video was made.

Well try a few quick fixes first:
Make sure the fan is clean.
Make sure the fan has not slipped off the bearing, gently push it in while it is off.
Check the power connector from the fan to the GPU.

If this doesn't work then I guess get hold of Rectron and tell them, they will most likely take it and repair it so you will have no card for a while.
You can also buy and swap the fan. Try contact Gigabyte, they may just send a new fan if it is under warranty.

If you have the invoice and it's still under warranty then take it to rectron.

That does seem to be the general answer I'm getting, it's still under warranty until February 2017.

I checked Rectron's site and used the contact us to ask them what they say. Will probably only hear back on Monday and it looks like a trip to JHB for me in the future.

Great service from Rectron, I've contacted them twice now without any response, nice quote from their site:

receive a response within 24 hours.

Does anyone please have a email address for someone that works at Rectron.

Call Rectron, speak to Gigabyte service manager.

Rectron technically deals with resellers only, so your query may have been ignored because you aren't a reseller (or you failed to provide them the account number) or a reply from them was sent to the reseller that card was sold to. Phone them and ask for the technical department, however you would have better luck visiting them and providing the card and invoice. If the card is in stock at Rectron then there is a possibility for an instant straight swap out for a new one, otherwise they will book in the card and have the component replaced.

Will wait until Monday, if I don't hear back I will call them.

Is that one fan not clipping on something, like a cable? I could be hearing things, but it sounds like the fan blades are touching something they shouldn't.

At least give me a little credit, it's not hitting anything, the sound you hear is the fan, most probably a bearing nearing the end of it's life.

If the serial number is on their system they will take it in for repairs even if you are not a registered dealer with them. Gigabyte is their inhouse brand so turn around on repairs shouldn't take too long.

I'm speaking from personal experience, i had some caps replaced on one of my previous cards.

Also, make sure your crimson drivers is up to date. Some versions right after release had a bug that caused fans to not spin up.

What do you think the chance would be of them repairing it in the same day, it's not going to be nice having to drive to JHB and back twice, they can probably also courier it to be?

Finally updated my system to Windows 10 yesterday, the Crimson Software Version 16.1.1 and Driver Version 15.301.1801.

It is why I suggested speak to the service manager. They will tell you if there is a stock. Have a serial number handy (from a barcode).

Called them and the lady said I can just walk in and the people will either fix it or replace it. Does anyone know their business hours or if they are open Saterdays?

From my previous two experiences with Rectron (Durban) I doubt you will get it the same day. Maybe if you are there in person. They first test it to make sure it is a warranty claim. I couriered mine there, and arranged a courier to pick up the new one. Much cheaper than driving there. Try Xpress Online Couriers, cheapest I could find with good service.

+1, I would do the same.

PS, I am sure you didn't speak to the service manager, it is a man. :)

I'm going on the 24th, I hope it gets fixed or replaced the same day because I really don't want to use my onboard GPU.

I specifically asked to speak to someone in the service centre/department that works with the Gigabyte brand, then I spoke to a very helpful lady telling me to come in they will help me out.

They usually have a 1 or 2 day turnaround time. I've never had a single problem with RMA returns & great service in the 12 years or so that I've been dealing with them. (Cape town)
