Google Maps now warns drivers about traffic jams

Thats a pretty damn epic feature.... might give it a bash soon.

Saw it yesterday - has a little pop up that happens as you drive highlighting the jam and as you drive in the jam, it has a bubble that shows the time left.

It further shows you whether the traffic on the route is heavier than usual, which might allude to an accident or borked traffic light.

What I would like is the option to report incidents.

Been doing this a while visually but the voice notifications and explanations are a nice addition.

Now I just wished they hadn't replaced the voice on mine with a transvestite prison guard...

I usually use Google maps for traffic. It now makes sense to me, while driving from the airport yesterday, I was sure I heard the Google App voice say something I've not heard her say before, "...your destination is 27km and the route is all clear....". Very nifty, saves on having to zoom-out the map for a visual every now and then while driving..

Snip cos that guy is disturbing

They have! I had a stern English woman before that I called Ann cos she sounded like Anne Robinson, was slightly sexy... Suddenly the other day I used maps to find somewhere and I'm being barked at by said transvestite prison guard, I was in pieces by the time I got to my destination.

My only gripe is that it offers the suggestion saying "Do you want to take this route". I want this to happen automatically. At least the TomTom does this but it appears like TomTom is reading the traffic data off google traffic and the tomtom is always about 10 minutes behind of what the traffic conditions are like.

I think the data actually comes from Waze. Google bought Waze didn't they?

Some of it, yes but Google actually tracks the number of Android smartphones making the exact same trek via the cell network or GPS. If a lot of phones are standing still on one spot for instance, then it interprets that as slow moving traffic.
