DStv BoxOffice now available to all subscribers

Due to a fault in MCs business system, I have had access to BO for almost 3 years already as an EasyView subscriber.

MC could never sort it out and explain where my phantom BO account came from ....

Soo now I fully intend using it until the credit that is there is worked off.

Ja IF you READ the complete article to the end WITHOUT getting WORKED UP, you will see it applies to ALL packages PROVIDED you have a PVR DECODER!
Loud enough now for you??

As a non MC subscriber, is the following correct. You need to pay R85 to access BoxOffice and then you also need to pay per movie? So if you don't watch (rent) a movie then you paid R85 for nothing.

Isn't that like PnP charging me a monthly fee so that I can use their trolleys\basket to buy stuff.

No a non MC subscriber cannot activate a PVR decoder anyway so the R 85.00 is NOT payable.

All non MC subscribers have always been able to hire BO movies for download via an Internet connection at a cost that is slightly more than R 35 per movie. To do this you need to go to the BO website and do whatever the site asks you in terms of installing players, registering, creating an account/paying via a credit card etc and then you can download movies to a PC . The hire contract expires after I think 48 hours.

The BO site is to be found here

You have been around long enough to know headlines are only a piece of bait, and as a techno-savy person on this forum, you also should know that with a dumb TVRO device without a HDD in it, downloads would not be possible.

That is what Edgars is now doing.

You pay R35 a month for Admin...

R85 a month for enabling a feature that should be free. That's just another reason to keep away from DSTV.

Off topic, but I will be closing my Edgards account due to this. There is no way I am paying a monthly fee for something that should be free. My wife has already closed her account due to this.

They wanted me to accept it. Declined it.

Other places like Markhams etc have an annual fee of R45 or something.
That is fine, but take R35 x 12? R420 for what???

I assume that R85 is for downloading the little sub selection of movies to your decoder? The online BO have a ton more content that i don't recall seeing on the decoder version...

Ok thanks, I think I understand. So the R85 is only of you want to access the content via a PVR decoder, on a PC its free.

To use BoxOffice, a DStv subscriber must have a decoder with personal video recording (PVR) functionality, and an active PVR service subscription

Why?

The R 85 is the charge DSTV has laid down for making use of the PVR facilities on a decoder. And PVR functionality is required IF you want to download BO content to your decoder.

It is NOT an extra charge as you are probably paying that fee anyway. Who gets himself and PVR decoder and then chooses to not use the HDD and the decoder's recording capability?

So IF Edgars is imposing this charge on top of everything else, they are completely in the wrong.

The charge should be nothing more than R 35 per movies actually downloaded. Anything else loaded on top of that is just a rip off.
