ShowMax’s push for more original and local content

Please nooo, catch up is already filled with Local content and it's taken over. To the extent that the other shows get only two episodes.
 
Or they can just make an XBox One app. I've offered to help them but haven't heard anything.

I'm thinking of something after the style of the UKs "Have I Got News For You" ...

The most popular shows on SA television are the local soaps. We also have a long record of producing quality drama series. The SABC seems to be doing its best to reduce "local" to crappy game shows with shouting audiences and refrigerators for prizes. (Actually, that was before I stopped watching SABC 5 years ago, so I might be wrong.)
 
I believe local content is how you can win countries away from Netflix and the other big streaming services.

Because everyone wants local content and not the big-budget shows filmed elsewhere...

Then we need to fix that with better investment. We're so cheap, that Hollywood comes and films here. Why give them all the cake when we could have a slice?

There's plenty that gets filmed here.

But locally produced and acted in content is generally not wonderful.

There's many great South African shows like Song vir Katryn, Vetkoekpaleis, Going nowhere slowly etc. Some made by the SABC but still. I also enjoyed the late night news shows like Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola and also Last say on Sunday was classic on SABC3. If they can experiment more like Netflix and not only rely on content already produced for DSTV's peculiar market and with the BBCSA then what's not to like?
