Hi Guys,

I am using Afrihost mobile data for my MTN sim and the Reddit app doesn't seem to be working. switch back to MTN and it works perfect. Not sure how many others are experiencing any issues on Afrihost mobile data

Hmm, not sure if it's happening right now but I couldn't use Reddit Sync this morning on Afrihost. Don't think I checked again after that.

I've been getting intermittent access issues to reddit.com all day with Afrihost Mobile on my laptop.

Jalopnik.com and Gizmodo.com still don't work via Afrihost, weird

I have also not been able to use the reddit app or access reddit in chrome. Do you think contacting afrihost would help?

Morning Guys!

Our Network Team is busy investigating this issue, we're just waiting for feedback from our upstream providers.

We'll have this resolved as quickly as possible.

This doesn't appear to be fixed yet, any updates? Reddit still isn't loading, via the app or on the browser.

mine has been 100% since yesterday. Maybe log a call with them to have a look
Not sure how that's possible.

The IP/url for Reddit is completely inaccessible via afrihost due to their upstream providers - using the app or trying to get there via a browser shouldn't be working. You sure you're using the afrihost apn and can actually navigate around reddit via the app?

We have reported the issue to our NOC Team. It appears that certain Afrihost APN users in the Cape are still affected by this. :(

See #QRG-620-19990 This is exactly the problem I'm experiencing. These IPs are being blocked at Teraco and earlier in the week Tata gateways. The traceroute outputs I sent via email show this. Switching to mtn data on the same sim uses the same Teraco gateway and succeeds to connect.
Please let us know what the issue is. Why mtn data is routed straight to reddit.com but Afrihost data is blocked.

We have reported the issue to our NOC Team. It appears that certain Afrihost APN users in the Cape are still affected by this. :(

Further to my previous post: The problem lies with all IPs with Fastly Network Operations in the USA. What is the problem?

These all have IP addresses belonging to Fastly Network Operations in the USA, see my post below.

Hi Guys,

A workaround until this issue is fixed is to sign up for a free tor vpn at https://www.torvpn.com/en/vpn full instructions, very easy to use. I just hope they fix this within the seven days of the free account.

I was also affected by this the other day. Had to switch my phone's APN from Afrihost to MTN to get Reddit to work. Not sure if it's fixed yet.

This is still a thing. Was working fine on the highveld, but not in CT

No the Afrihost team seem to be having a problem getting around this problem, it only applies to a certain range of IPs that we get allocated when we connect. I contacted Fastly and they stated that they aren't blocking that range. It's frustrating for me because it affects the extra content loaded in certain web sites, github.com becomes unusable for me and Mybroadband news doesn't load the comments via disqus.com. This affects other local news sites that use disqus.com to load their comments. I opened an Afrihost support ticket #QRG-620-19990 on the 8th of this month and have the impression that they either don't care or don't know what they're doing. I picked up another user's problem on downdetector.co.za, unable to use the slack app, which is caused by this issue.

I've also been affected by this. I've been calling and emailing them with traceroutes since early last week (#ONM-480-95727, #OKI-977-79139). Here are some other domains that don't work: fastly.net, reddit.com, nytimes.com, npmjs.com, and drupal.org. Pretty much anything that has fastly in front of it. They don't even acknowledge a problem on their status page. This leads me to believe they are ignoring it and hoping it goes away.

Here is some recent correspondence.

On the 15th:

Good day Rickert

I trust that you are well

Thank you for your email
The problem does not appear to be global, it appears to be an isolated case.
Please may you send us 2 or 3 traceroute to the website that you are able to connect for further investigation

I hope you will find this information helpful, please do not hesitate to contact us if you need help with anything else

Thank you

Kind Regards

Hi

Thank you for the mail.

Please be advised that our network team has made us aware of an issue with the Afrihost apn where it would not work on some international sites. This is also linked to the SEACOM cable break.
https://mybroadband.co.za/news/broadband/206332-seacom-cable-hit-by-outage.html

Our team is looking at ways to have this resolved as quickly as possible and the matter is taken as urgent.

Kind Regards

It's still broken as of this morning.

Check the url's they are all hosted by Fastly 151.101.0.0/16 range. All they have to do is liaise with Fastly and find out what's wrong. Although this issue started at the same time as the Seacom outage it's not caused by it.
