same story as Bitcoin cash, another hard fork in the cryptocurrency block-chain,
or how transactions are loaded and processed.

as it becomes more popular and more use it, network will get slower to process transactions, this is another way to deal with this issue.

I really don't understand these forking things at all.

I really don't understand these forking things at all.

simple really, as the code that runs BTC is open source and anybody can contribute to it,
sometimes there are disagreements on how to make things work better and or faster.

in BTC case many of these are invisible to the average user, but
sometimes a change will prevent others running an older version to use it in the same way.

tldr, open source is the wild west, anything goes, sometimes those disagreements cause the original to break off and operate differently.

The source code of Bitcoin is changed by one group and those changes are never moved back to the original source code. Literally, they diverge from that point forward. The same way Linux split up into multiple Distros. They are all the same underneath and up to a point where each starts doing things differently.

Mybb should maybe do an article on how these forks work. Things like:

- Who decides whether the fork happens given that there is no "owner/creator/board of directors" of Bitcoin?
- What development is associated with a fork? i.e. the coding/programming behind it. Who are these people that do this and how do we know it is legit?

So basically it act's like a totally different currency? Did the people with bitcoin get some of this new currency when the fork happens?

1. Go here: https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin
2. Click the fork button
3. Make your changes and push to https://github.com/saiyanz/bitsnorsumcoin
----
4. Convince people to use it

The end is nigh. This fad is over. Tulips. Pyramid. Bubble. I told you so. Your BTC is worthless, so send it all to me.:D

Yes you get free bitcoin gold for BTC you HODL.

1.1 ratio.
And the value for BTC stays the same even though there is now close to double the amount of 'money' in circulation?
Lets say I have 1 Bitcoin @ 60k ZAR.
After the fork will I have 1 Bitcoin @ 60k ZAR plus 1 Bitcoin Gold @ 60k ZAR
or will I have 0.5 Bitcoin plus 0.5 Bitcoin Gold, both @ 60k ZAR?
or something else?

Its a fork. So although it has a new name, lets say the fork starts at block no 5million. The 4999999 blocks before it still exist, even though its 'new' its already been through all those blocks, so, whatever you have on BTC up to block 4999999 now also exists on the new fork. 1 to 1. 1btc @ R60k and 1btc gold @ whatever price its trading at, if R60k, great, but in reality it'll be more like R500

had my coins with altcointrader.co.za so i got free bitcoin gold as they give forked coins
