This is the first month I've used bought a FreeMe Boost bundle that included the Lit Video data allocation. This afternoon I get a sms from Telkom stating I only have 500mb left on my Lit Music data while I was on YouTube.

Now when I got home I installed a data tracker app to see what was going on. I just used YT for about 5 minutes but the evidence is clear to see.

As you can see I wasn't any music app in that time that it could use up data from Lit Music.

Doesn't the LIT Video up to 360p mean you need to watch the video in 360p? For it to come off that bundle?

Once you activate lit Telkom throttles the traffic to youtibe on that number. So you can even stream 1080p or download youtube videos and it will still vome off your lit bundle. Your connection speed gets limited to 1Mbps just enough for 360p

Couldn't you use YouTube apps download feature to download high resolution videos at the snail speed and the watch them once all downloaded and then still be using the Lit data?

Yes you can do that. I tested a couple of setups and basically LIT does not discriminate....

I had a mifi with only a lit video bundle linked to an explora and was able to download HD content to the explora and it all worked fine. The connection is capped to 1Mbps but still only consumed the lit video.

You can also download if available in the app any quality and watch later. Same goes for DSTV now app. You can download and watch later. Showmax app was also working fine for downloads at the time I tested a few months back.

It will download anything basically but will chug along @ 120KB/s max speed. You must remember though that it's capped to that speeds so multi threading or multiple devices would not speed it up unfortunately but does work and if you are willing to wait or do the downloads over night then it might actually be worth it for those who only use mobile data for home and mobile use.

Are you saying that if I load the 10Gb lit music bundle, I will be able to access and download YouTube videos???

My previous FreeMe 2Gb expired this morning, I was able to watch Youtube and it deducted from the LIT music throughout the month. This morning I bought a FreeMe 5Gb and low and behold, the youtube once again deducted of the LIT music and not the LIT video. I spoke to Telkom and apparently what happens is that Telkom can only see you are connecting to a Google streaming service (ie either Play Music or Youtube), so it deducts the stream from the LIT Music and then once that is depleted it will start deducting from the LIT video. I suppose the same will happen with Google Play movies.
This explains why I was able to stream Youtube without depleting my 2Gb purchased Freeme data and instead using data from my LIT music.

Will see what happens when the 5Gb LIT music is finished and whether it will start taking from the LIT Video.
