"Hi Papi, Lulu
I hope you are both well.
Last month in my discussions with both of you (and with Steven and Puleng) I mentioned that Telkom is going to endure criticism, bad press and consumer action over the new billing system and suggested that Telkom should reconsider certain aspects of the new system. Unfortunately consumers and ISP’s were, as usual, ignored by Telkom. (In case you are unaware of the increasing concern expressed by ADSL users I have included a short summary at the end of this email.)
The lack of communication and flexibility on this new pay-per-gig billing system resonates rather unpleasantly with the MyADSL community of our past dealings with Telkom where there was an unwillingness to discuss these matters with ADSL users. It smacks of the time when Telkom dismissed us as ‘a small group of disgruntled users’ after we asked to work together to improve your ADSL service. The rest (ICASA hearings, ICASA ADSL Findings Report, very bad press, consumer action etc.) is history.
The consumer action regarding the new billing system and local capping will only intensify unless you are willing to urgently sit down and discuss with us how to improve the situation. This is an excellent opportunity for you, Papi to show that you are truly customer centric! To give you an idea of the reaction to your new system, 94% of ADSL customers do not support the new usage based billing system. This is not even taking local capping into account!
We have been promised by your (Papi) PA that you will call us by 15:00 on Monday 7 November 2005. Please honor this promise so that we can work out a constructive way forward.
Regards,
Rudolph Muller
