ADSL price cuts to be announced?

Do you think Telkom will announce ADSL price cuts at its annual results presentation?

The 1Mbps package sounds like a nice idea and hope to see if they go with it and if so the cost because 512 is too slow and the next one up is 4megs which is ~R900 for line and 3Gb account, which im sorry to say is complete nonsense.

Line rentals are wayyy too much imo

If that can just be cut out of the picture completely! :)

No price cuts. Broadband is the one area where Telkom still has any kind of competitive consumer presence, and they need to milk it for all its worth. Neotel botched their launch so Telkom doesn't have anyone who can offer comparative per GB pricing.

I'd say there'll be speed increases. 384kbps becomes 512kbps, 512kbps becomes 1Mbps, and maybe 4Mbps will go up to 8Mbps.

No, don't expect any reductions from their side.
No need for them to stir a market which they've got the majority of.
They'll keep on milking.

+1 or data increases

Why do they need to do it?
Not sure.
Tuesday will tell, soon or later...

Will it announce price cuts? Probably. Will they still be ridiculous in comparison to the rest of the world? Definitely.

I'd welcome any cut/product improvement , make no mistake!

It's just sad that the infrastructure isn't up to scratch to hold even a stable 384 sync at some places with cable length sub 3km!

I expect announcements regarding increased usage, perhaps a joint cap with Telkom HSDPA and an ADSL speed bump to 6Mbps. the stab at 6 is because I've heard some exchanges have provisioning for that speed on the ports.

D

Cybersmart offer a 4mb line + 3GB for R524 per month. Add the ~R120 for voice line rental and you get R644 ;)

But yes, telscum is ripping us off bigtime, yet there is nothing we can do. They rip of business making cost to do business in South Africa more, so we pay more.

They rip off on national connectivity (line to London costs the same as a line from Cape Town to Johannesburg) so we pay more for ISPs.

Thanks to telscum we get ripped off on more levels than we can imagine.

Probably going to be something like R100 off adsl rental, R99 increase on analogue line rental = decrease in adsl costs! Be happy you moany consumers :p

If you have a radio linked alarm, you pay Telkom a yearly licence to use the air. When I got charged the then R150 fee, I refused to pay it and cancelled my home alarm with immediate effect.

It would make sense that Sentech or ICASA would "own the air" since that it their business, not Telkom. But such is the extent of Telscum.

Wow, that I did not know. It makes sense from a twisted telscum owns all perspective, but damn!

sorry im not holding my breath.

line rental will probably go up by 15-20%

If they do reduce their ADSL prices they will probably increase the analogue line rental and some call fees to "fund" the decrease. Then they will argue that on the whole people are only paying 1% less or whatever.

Bastards can drop die price to R20 for an uncapped line for all I care.... doesn't help if they are unable to service you with a line in a the fastest growing area in Rustenburg. They have 10000 excuses not to install our line. And I have been waiting 8 months.
