huh?
This looks like it's for rich people. No way they gonna give a 10MB/s connection with a 3GB cap :confused: to make it worth it they going to have to go uncapped local atleast!

Still unheard of. The fastest standard out currently is 802.11n (254mb/s) if I'm not mistaken... I more than likely am mistaken, but the speeds are no way near 1gbit/s

Even using microwave, 1gbit/s is very rare... Not to mention expensive. I'd love to see them bring in 1gbit/s wirelessly to a CPE... Really, I do!
 
The critical phrase in that article is "up to"

It's like government saying we can save "up to" if we switch off our geiser

maybe it's like 1Gbit at 10m and it halves everytime you double distance. So after 1KM you got 10mbit

As for IS, the top link speed claim seems to be a little ambitious to say the least. But with, say, Redlines equipment they could offer decent point to point connectivity. But I think line of sight from their provider edge to the customer premises might be very challenging.

Yep. Main reason I posted the link is to show that it is possible. Personally don't know much about spectrum allocation (aside for the fact that ICASA is supposed to dish it out).

HARDLY a mainstream CPE to install to the masses.

Looks like it's targeted at corporates. Agreed, from a technology perspective, any consumer offering would need to operate point-to-multipoint with "near-line-of-sight" (NLOS) and a low cost CPE. This is why WIMAX is being punted as a consumer offering. The CPE cost is much lower.

Point-to-point solutions requiring "line-of-sight" (LOS) means that on either end, you typically require a roof mounted antenna which can see the physical high site - definitely not scalable for consumers.

They have further partnered with Transtel and Neotel to provide customers with Metro-Ethernet services. Typical services include 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps connections.

I think that is how they get off saying up to 1Gbps
 
and since when has icasa said 5,4 is licence free other than inside use?
Here IS is in no doubt that it is operating within the law, saying that as long as a company is in possession of a VANS license, employing unlicensed spectrum and abiding by the rules governing the use of unlicensed spectrum it can definitely built its own network and provide services over it.

Last week i had an unlicensed spectrum table - everything from HAM radio to baby monitors, only 2.4 was allowed outside - cant seem to find it now - can anyone find it?
 
google for general notice 533 of 2004 and check the annexure

5.4 - 5.725 has indoor and outdoor bands with 25mW (indoor) and 1 W (outdoor) EIRP limits iirc
 
I'm actualy looking at getting the 2048 service; here's info they sent me last year:

ISM BAND
It should be noted that due to the unregulated nature of ISM frequencies that WiNet solutions are by their very nature un-guaranteed services. What this effectively means is that the service may operate effectively for an unspecified period, and then suddenly may no longer work due to another wireless operator operating from a nearby location in the same band causing interference, or may experience intermittent service due to environmental interference (rain, fog etc) at various times of the day or year.
