EASSy construction starts

I must congratulate EASSy for pushing through – I counted them out after all the Gov interference etc.

Sounds very good, I just hope that the construction goes according to plan and that there are no delays.

There is hope for SA broadband, just not in the NEAR future . . .

I did a google trends seach for EASSy and found a news article dated December 2003.

Only took them 3 years to finally all agree and start construction. TIA time.

Edit: Oops, did a little more digging: News from June 2000 about EASSy. That makes more than 7 years ago...

I rate they saw Seacom bolting out of the gates and realised they weren't the only horse on the track :D

Hopefully this all adds up to cheaper and better broadband.

But that really is great news. Finally!

Mmmm... not a single word in the article about Seacom. Anyway, Seacom will be here sooner and it will be cheaper than Eassy's proposed rates.

But still, competition is always good.

They institutions involved in EASSy decided to fasttrack the project. In that way they can just follow the Seacom cable layer ship and save themselves the time and cost of a marine survey.

Fasttrack is pretty slow these days, isn't it?

I always look at the maps and wonder how the other countries that these cables land in can allow the SA government to screw them around like this.

Not really :)

Yesterday, Eassy announced that construction of its cable by Alcatal-Lucent had begun. This means the physical survey of the route will be conducted over the next two months, after which the actual cable will be manufactured and laid along the East African coast.
