Telkom gives me heartburn

Where have I heard this before....

Note that on average the private sector including the poorest of the poor are funding the business sector... interesting - sounds like Eskom... so that leads me to believe the common element is the problem...
GOVERNMENT>!

They got enough money, cause they have not installed my telephone line after 21 months of ordering it.

They want money...just like any other business. Go into any shop and see the prices of food, for example...there really is no difference between prices from one shop to another.

Do you people really think competition is going to help? Not even the competition commission can sort these greedy companies! They artifically inflate prices, give bad service and get fined and then just increase their prices.

People, wake up to capitalism(gone wrong)

9 months was enough

waited 9 months for an ADSL installation. ended up canceling the order AND my normal phone line. (The phone line I had installed because I needed ADSL.)

When WiMax option came around I was told I cannot get WiMax either because I did not have a phone line!
Spent hours trying to explain that WiMax is wireless so I don't need a phone line. Finally was told that you MUST have a phone line to have ANY kind of service from Telkom (for billing purposes).

I never looked back to Telkom, and I am finally letting myself get my hopes up over Neotel. By 31st of April I MUST have something from Neotel.

I've seen a constipated 4 year old look more content that consumers are with Telkom.

...while a lone woman womanned the payments area
ummm okay, shouldn't journalists and the like have studied the language they're writing in?

That stood out more than anything else in the article, because it's basically common knowledge that Telkom is raping our wallets. It's just another litany on another website of how useless Telkom is, anyone able to get to the page to read it is probably complete aware of the ridiculous prices. Things like this need to get into newspapers and TV to really be noticed, so those that can't afford it know why they can't afford it and to thank their government.

Everyone's lashing out at Telkom, which is doing what any company with shareholders would, while those really responsible don't have to dodge nearly as many bullets.

BWAHAHAHAHA!!!! I Thought you were joking... this is brilliant! Wooot, thanks for making my day Browser!!!

Friends in high places.... yes. Their biggest share holder is Government... Who has the most to lose? Government.... Who is doing everything in their power to prevent the decrease of prices? Government

I will be waiting 1 year 2 months end of April for my ADSL, which they told me when I ordered is available in my area. They tell me now sometime in June... I wish I could tell them to stuff off, but since I play online games I need ADSL to be competitive.

So I feel your pain.

I'm tired of hearing this already! We all know Telkom sucks so why post it here? Especially on a monday? Are you trying to give us incentives to commit suicide???

we all know telkom is bad but still nothing gets done.

What is WRONG with you Felicity? You mean Telkom bugared up your name, then made you go to Rosebank and while they had tea... wait, you know the story, you were there. But now, what I don't understand is that you allowed yourself to be subjected to all this and you did nothing about it. Okay, you wrote a column, which will perhaps reach someone new. But other than walk the tired old path and do what other have done, for years, you essentially did nothing.

You had a golden opportunity to use your situation in that shop and you missed it. No shouting? No screaming? No vitriol? You made no legal threats or demands? You didn't even attempt plain old queue rabble-rousing??

Okay, yes, you are granted that the Rosebank Mall security are scary- they've put their filthy paws on me a couple of times. But you don't have to go beyond the bounds of what the other customers/gathering crowd feel to be your acceptable opinion-expressing, given the telkom situation.

Instead of acting firsthand to encourage debate and talk and generate opinion, you sold your story secondhand and missed out. Thanks, but tell us something we don't know, or at least next time smash a window or something to give us something worth reading :D. Cos right now you're giving us heartburn by regurgitating for us the acidic contents of all that we already know.

Or, come with me again to Rosebank on a busy day. When the inevitable situation develops, let's claim to be psychologists sent on assignment from top management. We'll say that we are instructed to get the telkom employees to talk- right now in front of their customers- about how they feel working in this environment and working for telkom. "Management's orders! Now! We are of higher authority than you! Obey!"

Or maybe I'll do that and put it on youtube :D
