Telkom Do Broadband ‘not ready’

Good - I can see how this would be an easy decision by the ASA. You'd imagine at some point Telkom would actually get the message and start churning out good, useful adverts.
 
I also wanted to lodge a complaint, but ag, it's Telkom, they are just 'stupid in motion' :)

I can't wait for the 'problem to solve itself' :D
 
I think we should maybe all start acting on Telkom ads... All their ads are misleading!

If we prevent them from advertising, maybe they'd actually have to start doing what they say in their advertising :D

Desperate times call for desperate measures...

The ASA ordered Telkom to withdraw the advertisement in its current format and said that it may not be used again in its current format

and? whats the point of ASA if nobody ever gets any form of penalty? all they have to do is change the adverts?? its basically a matter of advertise anything u want... ASA will just determine how long u can have ur advert going while in the meantime u get to cash in on the other 100's of customers falling for ur advert.
 
I'm waiting for the geniuses at Telkom to come out with a comment that the ASA has no authority over Telkom, only ICASA
 
The ASA was unconvinced, saying that the advertisement creates a misleading impression by implying that ones neighborhood is now compatible to receive the advertised service.

My feelings exactly!

Billy: *Pulls his sisters hair*
Mom: "Tut tut Billy, don't pull your sisters hair, ok?"
Billy: "Sorry Mommy!" *Kicks his sister in the chin*
Mom: "Tut tut Billy, don't kick your sister in the chin, ok?"
Billy: "Whatever Mommy!" *Bites his sister*
Mom: "Tut tut Billy, don't bite your sister, ok?"
... and so it goes ...
Billy: *Ignores Mommy, eventually ends up dead after a life of addiction and crime*
Mom: "Why God, WHY did this happen to my poor little boy!!"


What's the point of the ASA if their is no penalty for wrongfull action?
What's the point of any of the regulators in this country for that matter?
They're all billies mommies! :p
 
I imagine there are some costs involved and pain in the ass factor in pulling a promotion you've worked on. Possibly destroying millions of leaflets and posters you've had printed.
What I find more irritating is that Telkom have a way into so many peoples homes (phone owners whom they bill) at which they can direct advertising. They punt their broadband products and services that compete directly with other ISPs and other ISPs can never hope to achieve the same targeted mass advertising. I almost feel that Telkom should be forced to carry competitive offerings form other ISPs on the same ads. I guess I can dream...
 
o boo hoo telkoms gets another slap on the wrist
 
Point is it went out - without a fine I see little point... ok it protects consumers in the future, but Telkom knew it probably would get nailed after it already got out of the door. Fines are all I see working here - it'll make them really do their homework and not push their luck.
