Well

to say that I am not happy is the understatement of the year...

I received a data bill of R13000 - odd. Somewhere on the 19th of March, something happened: Data streamed non-stop for about 48 hours at full speed according to the traffic report.

Either my Windows machine started downloading and redownloading a corrupt file, or somebody hacked into my wireless network and downloaded a whole lot of movies - I don't know. When this started, I was under my 2GB bundle. When this stream eventually stopped, R11000 of bandwidth had been used. I know this wasn't a zombie or trojan attack because the traffic was down, not up.

After a phone call to the data helpdesk, Vodacom graciously cut the bill in half, which is still going to force me to take savings to pay for this.

Whilst I accept that I am responsible for control of traffic, what I find very disappointing is this:

No notification to me or suspension of my account. Vodacom are happy to cash in on my misfortune and I only find out when I get the bill. No SMS, nothing. Also Vodacom4me balance enquiry only shows that the bundle is used - once you're over, you have no idea how much.

So - after many satisfied years with Vodacom, I am reluctantly going to find another service provider, because I don't think I was looked after - and I think the systems need to have some checks and balances to prevent what happened to me happening to others.

:(

Sorry to hear :(

Hoping Vodacom will introduce a hard cap soon. I know so many people who have been hit by that ; especially new subscribers. They think they'll get cut off at the cap and very often go over for the 1st month or two and spend extra a few extra hundred $$$ :/

lol...you funny you say you know it`s your fault, they cut your bill in half, you downloaded at your full line speed for 48hrs, now you going to leave them.

You are responsible for the usage yes , but you should learn to put in precautionery meassures as well

yes its up to them to put some sorts of notification in place or a way for you to check(sms MM to 31050 yes its FREE) thats how to check bundle and (CB to 31050 for account balance)

I'm curious;

1. How much over did you go?
2. What were you downloading?
3. If it's nice, can you share it with me? :D

He's getting a +- R73000 bill.

There is a way to see this - do a detailed billing report on v4me and it will show OOB usage as well.

My advice is that you use pre-paid data bundles instead of contract data bundles.

Won't you pass me the data number in question?

I didn't say I downloaded at full speed. I said there was traffic at full speed...big difference. If I had actively downloaded stuff I wouldn't have anything to bitch about...

lol - laugh at my expense - I probably deserve it.....

This thing is a data card in a server - SMS's etc. really are not that relevant in a server.

Nothing like shutting the stable door once the horse has bolted......:)

Hmmm... I wouldn't move if I were you... none of the others would do any different. They also don't have notifications.

Also, I'm pretty sure the others wouldn't have given you 50% off...

Also, ask Vodacom for a detailed summary of what was downloaded....? Surely they must be able to provide that in case of a dispute?

I also had all my bandwidth swipped last week at home, also wireless (secure), which is a bit annoying, but I have ADSL so it was hardcapped... have to wait till the 20th for more :(

1. About 10GB
2. I wasn't downloading anything
3. If it's nasty, do you still want me to share it with you?:p

Seriously - nobody in their right mind is going to download 10GB @ R1.20 per meg. That's R12000! Oh wait - that's the same as my bill!

I've developed a sense of humour about this ...

See if you can negotiate to back pay for five bundles... try and find someone human on the Vodacom side who is decent enough to let you do that... I mean come on, they must realise we are human, and we all make mistakes.

I hope you've changed the wifi security settings...?

Geez and here I was feeling upset cos iBurst had billed me R469 even though I've asked them to change to FreeFlo. Thanks for making me feel better.
