Vodafone releasing iPhone in Australia, Italy, India, and seven other countries

by Ryan Block, posted May 6th 2008 at 2:36AMBreaking News
Vodafone's just got a tiny, minor, insignificant announcement to make this morning: it's signed with Apple to sell the iPhone in ten markets, including Australia, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy (so much for Telecom Italia), India, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa and Turkey. Expect the phone later this year -- that's all we know for now. Score one (or ten?) for Voda.

"Later this year, Vodafone customers in Australia, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa and Turkey will be able to purchase the iPhone for use on the Vodafone network," the British-based firm said in a statement without giving any more details.

Interesting...

There is no point bringing the 1st Gen one, everyone that has wanted an iPhone in SA has already bought one. I know one guy that has flogged 400 himself...

They better be releasing the 3G 2nd Gen Model, if they thinking of taking off with the phone.

And it will definitely came with a 2 year contract like AT&T - it's exclusivety.

All i can say is: SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET

I dont care how much it is im getting one! The iPhone is beyond juicy! :D

I am sure they will be waiting till June/July for the 3G version to hit the market. I am really sceptical about the price though. I can only imagine that it will be way overprices compared to the US. It would also be interesting to know if Core will have a finger in the pie.

I hope they come out with an affordable all inclusive data plan.
