SABS tackles Microsoft

I wish Mark Shuttleworth would just dissapear of the face of the earth because this guy irretates the hell out of me.

He just cannot accept that Microsoft won and he and his buddies lost. The more options available the better...

Or the fact that a COMPANY(driven for profit) can affect international standards?

lol.. when exactly did that happen? Ubuntu has never been more of a threat to Microsoft than right now. The war is at it's hottest... and it is a war that Microsoft cannot win, cos nothing beats "Free". MS cannot give everything away for free, they are in it for the money.

And all your post shows is that you know nothing about the state of open versus proprietary standards. This is one war that we do not want MS to win. For the good of all mankind. ;)

Digital standards become crucial when your computer cannot open an important document, and the SABS is working to ensure that documents are usable because different software programs can co-operate.

This is extremely important for all of us. Microsoft want to lock in their users to their operating systems and office suite, and this is not a good idea to do.

Look what happened to IBM with their mainframes when client-server computing took off.

The vendor who tries to lock its customers in, will lose out on the long term.

Sorry, Microsoft, but your time is past.

Actually he made his money from digital security certificates, which by their very nature cannot be "open".

You might want to know something about what you are going to say before you say it. ;)

And anyway, he only got into the Open Source Fraternity after he left South Africa and went overseas. People are allowed to dabble in different fields if they want to. Many of us very glad he dabbled in Open Source.

And I guess Red Hat are also wrong for making all that money for supporting Red Hat Linux! :D

Some people just do not understand the proprietary issues... makes you wonder if they LIKE paying Microsoft nearly R4000.00 for a copy of Office?
 
Do you guys have any idea how much MS spends on courtcases?

I bet all their profits from each new OS is divided as follows;

1. 60% for law suits
2. 10% to Bill Gates
3. 30% to our coffers ;)

What this article is all about is that processes were skipped because it was Microsoft.

Not as many as OOXML from what I hear. Seems like the better choice on both fronts. Can you give me a good reason of why you are in favour of a proprietary standard?

Well #1 it is not proprietry. Thats the first misconception.
#2: I like options. Dont like the idea of someone dictating to me what I can use simply cause they got a beef with MS
#3: Go dig out my other posts for a techical breakdown.
