E272 - dozens of disconnects per day!

I use an E272 on PPDB.

I have been experiencing literally dozens of disconnects per day everyday over the past month or so. Sometimes it gets so bad that it disconnects within 2 or 3 minutes of connecting and, more often than not, I have been unable to reconnect. The popup error was "RAS 680" in every case.

I have tried everything to get rid of this problem (deleting the device ... deleting and reinstalling VMC etc.) and even went as far as rebuilding my C-drive with a clean install of Windows XP pro SP3. Al of this to no avail!

Anyway, last night I uninstalled VMC for the umpteenth time. I then went into my Networks folder and realised that the VC connection was still there. I double-clicked it and it connected immediately. After that, no more disconnects for the evening.

I have now been connected continuously since 09:00 today and have not experienced a single disconnect. Speeds are great, too.

So, where does the problem lie? With the VMC software, it seems, but why?

TIA.

(I wrote to vodacom3g about this, but I heard somewhere that he's on leave?)

he said he would be using his e272 to visit now and again - maybe he is having problems too (LOL)

Only 2 disconnects since 08:30 on Friday. It's now 00:18.

This software is definitely more stable than VMC plus it loads and connects twice as fast!

Thanks for the tip, Tun@ !!!

Saturday @ 15:35: Not a single disconnect since 08:30 !! :D

Just experienced my first disconnect since 08:00 today!

This software sure kicks ass!! :D

Funny, i've been using VMC and VMCLite for more than a year now, and i havent had any disconnects.

I wish I were that fortunate. But, alas, I am not. It was driving me nuts! Sometimes, I couldn't reconnect without rebooting and, even then, I had reconnection problems.

BTW, just had my first disconnect of the day and reconnected immediately without any hassles.

It's also how the software handles a weaker signal - good software will be able to recover and carry on.

I think this might have a lot to do with signal strength rather than the software.

The local tower (base station) is in the same block as my house. I have a full signal 24/7! :D

Had quite a few disconnects earlier on in the week, but not a single one today. I believe these disconnects were caused by a network problem.

Had no disconnects since I used the e272 for months- but earlier this week there were several disconnects a day and plenty in the evening. It's now stable over the past couple of days.
Could only be a network problem- not related to signal strength.

Yep, must have been a network problem as I did not have a single disconnect over this past weekend!

yes I think it must have been a network problem, I notice mine does the disconnects when it's windy or there is a lot of rain. but what you can try as well is upgrade the firmware of the card it's available on vodacom website it helped after I did that as well.
