Giving SA some love

WITH MTN'S RAPID expansion overseas it isn't hard for its subscribers in South Africa to feel a bit like the neglected child. However, the R7,1bn it's set to spend over the next year or so in upgrading its infrastructure throughout SA should calm the most cynical criticisms.

Yup. We fund MTN's expansion while they charge us MORE than what they charge in other countries.
 
Bout soding time. MTN has been carp lately. 3g just doesnt work half the time and if it does it drops the connection constantly. cant make voice calls some days and cant receive calls other days. Been getting seriously fed up with them, but i really dont fancy my other options. I mean who voluntarily signs up with Cell C? And Voda is out due to a historical argument between themselves and me.

I've been having the same problems. Was actually considering cell c. :)

MTN is also rubbish with delivery of smses. :(

They never used to be so sucky.
 
I am also hoping that this will enable them to drop bandwidth charges because hopefully there will be enough backhaul bandwidth for their HSDPA network...

I was with Virgin Mobile (which uses Cell C's network) for about a year - I ported my Vodacom prepaid number to them when MNP was launched. I must say that the quality of the calls and the network was impressive compared to Vodacom. Yes they didn't (and still don't) have 3G, but the quality of the Edge connections was good. Also I didn't suffer from dropped calls, errors in connection, network busy errors or dropped data connections. Everything just ran smoothly, and the call costs and data costs were better than anyone else.

The only reason I eventually switched was because they didn't offer 3G, and HSDPA had been launched. I switched to MTN, and now I suffer from most of these problems again - just like I did with Vodacom. However, MTN's data network, especially their 3G and HSDPA is way more superior than Vodacoms.

Has anyone else had the same experiences?

Well, Neotel pulled a bit of fiber into our building and connected it to one of these


You have to take a minimum of a 2 meg point to point link... Costs half of a telkom 2 meg link...
