especially if its by RPM...

I dont understand the whole thing about cellphones on planes, yes the radio transmissions can screw with equipment, fine, but if we disable all radio signals (flight mode) then surely the phone cant be a problem? I dont turn my phone off, i put it onto flight mode and plug in my headphones for some music.
Ive also noticed many other people doing the same thing, even some without flightmode, they just go onto silent, and well so far the planes have been A ok.

While the survey found that respondents were averse to talking on mobile phones, 57% of those who had flown said they enjoyed making conversation with their seatmates.

Why do I always end up sitting next to these types?

Also - "and1" in par 6. I'd also like an ipod please.

i am strongly epposed
in general i hate speaking on a mobile where others are in hearing range
+ unless unavoidable i will pace when speaking which could be tricky when flying

although running on 17 domestic flights in a row with an empty seat next to me :)

Some of the cellphones (I take it to be the older models) do not block ALL transmissions, and seeing as the attendents are not going to check every person's mobile, they just tell them to please all switch off :)

I don't mind people using it for games or music (in-flight mode) ... but not for making calls.

That's the way it should stay. Aeroplanes are one of the last places where I do not have to hear some pretentious person talk about their love life/what they did last night etc.

funny how south africans still think using a phone in a plane will make the plane crash!! :D:D i swear you guys are not in the 21st centry with internet and few other things

Honestly people - is it really necessary to irritate so many other flyers? Certainly telephone conversations can wait for two hours... take some time to smell the roses!

Personally I'm quite happy that phone users join the smokers in the smoking accomodation situated to the left and right of the main cabin just above the engines...
