Telkom to drive prices down?

Head lines should have disclaimer or show which section of the market it is taking about.
A good % of us here, are more that interested in DSL data prices going down from telkom. But then rpm is a bit of a journo, and that is what journo's do, get folk to read their copy.

I think:

Telkom to drive prices down?
Will Telkom start a price war with its mobile services?

was clear + certain ADSL users ( /me ) would probably switch if they forced prices down enough.

+ it was filed under http://mybroadband.co.za/news/Cellular/5493.html

I doubt by much. It would be silly for them to kick off with a huge % cut because they'd destroy a market that i am sure they want to cash in on while expanding their own network. If they did do a big % cut, it would be the first time they ever did something like that when they didn't have to.

Surely this is a bit meaningless - the only really relevant benchmark is Neotel, which is already offering similar services. By comparison, the mobile operators are way, way over-priced (like five to ten times for voice calls). This article sounds a bit too much like Telkom propaganda.

Early speculation suggests that Telkom will compete aggressively on price when it comes to its semi-mobile data and voice services, undercutting the incumbent cellular operators.

Bwahahahaha!! Telkom wouldn't know how...

No, telscum saw how much the cellular operators are ripping people off, so they want in.

They will not be lowering their prices, they will just to what Neotel does: Offer "better" service while they shaft the customer.

methinks telkom knows how delicious the pie is... and wants their own little slice of it.

The chances of telkom competing.....I don't think they would know what a competition was even if they were given a manual about it :P

They admit that fixed line costs are too high. Then start a mobile network that will be cheaper than the other mobile guys but all things considered probably still more expensive than the fixed line costs. So they basically have not dropped their costs and aren't going to drop fixed line costs?

Telkom's prices will be above Neotels

Dont expect lower prices ! It aint gonna happen.

R1-50 per minute telkom to telkom peak.
R0-75 Per minute off peak
R2-00 peak 2 mobile operators.
R1-00 OFF PEAK 2 mobile.
R1-20 per minute to neotel peak.
R0-75 Per minute to neotel off peak.

Data 1gig = R249
Data 2gig = R299
Data 5gig = R499
Data 10gig = R899

The moral of the story Telkom has just found a way to inflate prices above the ICASA regulated price increases and fool the consumer at the same time into thinking Telkom's cheaper. Official Pricing will be out on the 20th October 2008.

You be the judge if u got any brain.

DxL - Mobile

Comoooon why even the heading for such a wishful thinking article! :)
We all know and hate Teklom. They WILL be MORE expensive guarenteed. Because they are bleeb %%#%^ &#^# ....
Honestly most people are just to naive to know they are being done in. And as long as us people stay quite and just pay up nothing will change..

oh my god, they cant even get there current system working now they want to do this.

You really are bunch of pessimists...

Things ARE going to change to the benefit of the consumer, so why not appreciate early attempts, even though it might be from Telkom.

Too much negative energy on this forum...

I agree that there is definitely a lot of negativity on these forums, but this time I have to agree with the pessimists. Telkom has just found a way of charging consumers more for less.

Telkom has never reduced prices to the benefit of consumers and I doubt that it will start now. Slightly lower prices by Telkom may force MTN and Vodacom to reduce their own prices, but I very much doubt that this will happen. Not in the short term at any rate.

Telkom are just in the market to make ends meet...
How does/did their majority shareholding in Vodacom affect prices?

will believe it when i c it. have heard too many stories of "good" things coming in the future. havent seen any of them yet. when i do, i will believe it. for now, it will be filed under "more PR."
