I am basically commentless () but here's extracts -

The future of the Springbok emblem is expected to come up for discussion during the national sports indaba to be held in Durban on Thursday and Friday.

One school of thought is that there should be one emblem for all South African sports teams.

However, rugby could come under attack. The reluctance of some unions to let players wear the “No to Racism” slogan on their jerseys during a recent campaign is likely to be raised.

The Sharks, who were unable, for commercial reasons, to replace their sponsor’s name with the slogan, made it clear nevertheless that they supported the campaign.

The Springbok emblem is, from a commercial point of view, worth millions of rands. Rugby supporters also have a tradition of emotional attachment to the emblem.

However, the emblem is seen in some circles as carrying “negative baggage”.

It is expected that a transformation committee will be formed soon. The members will report to the minister of sport and recreation and will keep an eye on transformation in all sports.

The indaba has been organised by the ministry of sport and recreation. Among the guest speakers are sports minister Makhenkesi Stofile, Sascoc president Moss Mashishi and Butana Komphela, chair of the parliamentary sports portfolio committee.

About time - I vote for the dung beatle as our new national emblem. It epitomizes the new values we are striving towards - i.e. digging ourselves into deeper sh..... every day.

Oh FFS you have got to be fscking kidding me!!? I am absolutely appalled that they even contemplate this. There is no fscking negative baggage associated with a fscking springbok. WTF did the springbok do during apartheid? Jump higher than a black man? Fsck me, must be racist those little buggers.

Atrocious display of power by the lunatic transformation committees. Rather put the money into development in sport - enough of this BULLSH1T!

I am now fscking mad!

hmmm these people have nothing better to do than complain about the emblem that has won 2 world cups for SA.

keeping all the politics in mind, the next emblem has to be the kwêvoël

:(

Putting the important matters ahead of everything else! A few more generations before the gene pool catches up.

Wow, the Springbok an apartheid emblem. So even Springboks roaming wild Africa are to blame now for apartheid.

Springbok emblem to be scrapped within a month..!!

Just watched the news on etv and i see that they say the springbok emblem will be scrapped within a months time  and replaced with a fscking protea!

This p1sses me off so much its not even funny. But i guess thats exactly what they want. This will make us a laughing stock once again :(

The day that the Springbok emblem is scrapped is the day that I stop supporting SA rugby. I'm sick of politics in sport! I'm living in Canada anyway. Ice hockey is an amazing sport I think I'll learn to understand how it works and support my local team. Besides it will save me the huge chunk I'm paying to see SA rugby over here.

Komphela says this is something that will unite the country. He needs to get his head out of his ass and realize that the more whites feel disenfranchised the less unity they will feel with black south africans. These guys are always wanting white south africans to respect their culture... well the springbok is part of our heritage and culture... will you rape even that.

any news about changing the name of Table Mountain to something else, i guess its only a matter of time.

You got to love the ANC mentality, eish the crime rate is out of control, infrastructure is collapsing, half the cabinet resigns, what do we do? I know lets change some street name/sports emblems and hand out some t-shirts……… Just in case they did not know, name changes cost millions of rands and contributes nothing.

South Africa really isn't a Democratic country anymore is it. The day politicians decide things before letting the masses decide it pushes SA ever closer to being a dictator lead communist country
