Telkom to buy MWEB Africa

So it's not South Africa? Just the rest of Africa?

Article says it "excludes South Africa"

mweb must be making a loss to sell ?!

Not necessarily, if I remember correctly Naspers wants to sell Mweb because it doesnt fall in line with their core business.

I wonder what the competition commission will have to say about this

Erm, didn't the article state that Mweb Africa excludes South Africa?

Ja, you right... it does.

but that's weird. I thought the whole of M-web was up for sale?

OK, so maybe the local division remains with Multichoice?

No..please tell let this be one of those scary nightmares that you can still crawl away from. :(

I can already hear the screams of frustration from MWEB clients.

I guess it makes sense though, since MWEB still have the largest dial up user base in the country. Lots of potential to try and push upgrades there.

Hopefully, the regulating boddy won't approve of this!! I don't see ICASA having a problem with this as ICASA has always stived to make the market easy for Telkom, but hopefully the ASA don't like this idea!

The Article does say that it EXCLUDES South Africa guys.

We need confirmation or enlightenment on this story.

They will make a good paring, are they not no.1 and no.2 on the "most expensive IPS" list?

Come to think of it, Telkom must be really desperate to get hold of more corporate clients. Something tells me this is not just about aiming to expand through Africa.

It is indeed only MWEB Africa, and not MWEB SA. Garyvdh, you are quite right that it was the entire MWEB up for sale, but due to market conditions, it was decided to only divest MWEB Africa
