Best data centre in SA?

It is definitely an impressive facility. The satellite earth station right next to the DC also does not hurt when it comes to redundancy :)

Now the wait to see what the prices will be like.
 
Any idea how this compares to bcx's data center? I heard a rumor not to long ago that it was "the best" in the southern hemisphere at the time.

Just wondering .....
 
Bottom line for me is redundancy and reliability. Hetzner can have the most fantastically-featured datacenter on the planet, but if their Verizon upstream dies or the (currently non-existent?) backup power system dies on a regular basis, I couldn't care less. Ultimately I have SLAs to live up to with my clients and whilst its nice to know that the world's most sophisticated fire/cooling systems are there, what really matters is that the connectivity is reliable.

I think they've been so busy building the best that they haven't figured out yet how to actually sell it...... Build it and they will come....:) Ja right.

When I first emailed them we were finalizing the server rental and already have a contract. I'm really interested in how the prices compare to Mweb, IS and Datapro. Let's see first if they follow up on the lead :cool:
 
I've sent emails twice via the online form, and have only received the automated responses :(

ETA: just received an email to phone the Business Campaign Division -- who also had no clue about pricing and will get someone to phone me...

Same here. I spoke to them on the phone requesting a quote for 2 full racks in secure vault storage, biometric access etc, which is enterprise-level last time I checked, and also never got any response back.

Just signed the contract with IS. Doesn't matter how fancy your data center is if your sales people are all useless.

Any idea who setup that DC? was it internal to Vodacom or did the contract that out?

Good on VC for showing how it really should be done.
yes prices will be higher than Van's corner ISP for good reason.
 
As radicool stated: "Doesn't matter how fancy your data center is if your sales people are all useless." And obviously it's also all the other areas that count, admin, accessibility, customer care. I've been hosting with Hetzner since 2000, and even though they aren't perfect, I've had excellent service from them. They treat their SME customers exactly the same as the bigger ones. Recently one of their servers in CT were compromised and they had to restore it. They offered six months hosting for free in compensation!

One of the things that really irks me is when a company does not respond to a query. Must say that other departments at VC mostly respond in a timely fashion, let's hope that the data center shapes up as they get organised :rolleyes:
 
Hehe ...gotta love the marketting ... The best in South Africa... would love to see their Uptime institute assessment and confirmation of Tier 4 status!! Probably a very similar design to BCX's in the end.
