Most popular smartphones

engadget claims "Nokia's share slid from 50.9% to "just" 40.8%" (MyBB: 43.7%), "RIM increased its share of the lucrative market to 19.5%" (MyBB: 16.6%), and "Apple more than doubled its share, up from 5.2% to 10.7%" (MyBB: 8.2%) - I wonder why is there such a disparity?

omnia rocks! there is new one called the omnia HD...features are crazy. prob be in SA late this year.

Samsung has improved a lot recently and its models are becoming popular, eg Omnia but
Samsung is not even mentioned in above article.

Obviously no-one using the HTC Touch HD yet :)
I have had this phone a week now, and still get a rush by simply picking it up and answering a call. I cannot stop playing with it... Oh baby.

Must say, I've been using HTC's for years but the sluggishness gets too much. Will be having a look at the OmniaHD and a couple other handsets like the Xperia, doubt the Toshiba TG01 will be heading over here though :( upgrade time soon.. decisions decisions

I hear you there MaD, and that has changed. I had TyTN 2, then TyTN 1 before the Touch HD. Purely because of the sluggishness I was going to go BB Storm.
Then the Touch HD was released and I read a pile of reviews on it. Sluggish thing is a thing of the past now. I went to check one out to verify, and was sold on the spot.

The performance of the Touch HD is really really good. It will change your opinon on HTC performace.

I have seen some HTC phones, they look really nice. Although Nokia makes good phones, they're easy to opperate and also boast a lot of features. E71 good smartphone, N85,N95,N96 good smarphones with the same office, and organisation software but more of a rounded phone than just a PDA.

Nokia still tops but Apple and Blackberry are climbing fast
Haha ! Nice one - a phone maker versus fruits :p
Well, as they say, all is fair in smartphones and fruits.

The Touch HD is indeed a very nice all arounder. And it works (for a change) as advertised :D A pity the camera (especially video rec) is nowhere near my old N95-8gig. And it does make use of Windows (Mobile). Just the thought of countless crashes puts me off. As long as you are not a real 'power user', the HD should be OK. Of course,it can't really compete with the versatility/stability and popularity of the s60 OS. If they make a Windows Mobile device without a RESET button, I might buy one and USE it as my main device :D Until then the combination of my n95-8gig and AspireOne will have to do.

I can't comment on the Touch, but my HTC P3300, which I've now had for over 2 years is great. :p It had Windows Mobile 5 on it when I got it & I've since loaded v6. I cannot recall ONE instance of it crashing on me & I've used it for everything ... GPS, Phone, Excel, Lit reader, Pdf Reader, Bible, Contacts, Internet ... the only functionality I've never used is e-mail (data too expensive). So, not sure who's experiencing all these crashes, but here's one Windows Mobile user who's happy ... :)

Smartphone sales by OS

Symbian leads with 62% of sales in 4Q08, according to Gartner.

Coincidentally saw this just before coming to MyBB:
Gartner’s Q4 2008 results in – Windows Mobile doing OK, soundly outsells OSX

Gartner doesnt report too well on Windows Mobile, but their results is still an occasion for some discussion, be it positive or negative.

On this occasion the results could be interpreted rather positively.

According to Gartner 4.7 million Windows Mobile phones were sold to consumers in the last 3 months of 2008, which of course included the festive period. This is a 16% increase over sales in the previous Quarter (3.95 million) and a 7.8% increase Year on Year from 4.35 million. While Windows Mobile even saw a slight increase in market share from 11.9 to 12.4%, which should (but will not) silence critics who claim the operating system ins increasingly unpopular. In fact, more and more people chose it each year.

Sony Ericsson doesn't even compete any more....what's happening to them? I have always liked their phones. Sharp ??? Who are they? :)

My favorite phone is the Nokia 1110, yes the little black and white screened one. It can call and SMS and it has a battery life that pwns every other phone. Besides if I want to check my email, I use my computer, If I want to listen to music, I use my computer, If I want to use a GPS, I use a GPS. Putting all the devices into one may be convenient, but it puts lots at stake if the phone gets lost

Remember, all those other gadgets you use take power to charge and it is a mission to find them all when you want to go somewhere. Also, keep in mind the huge amount of energy that is required to make consumer goods like computers and GPS devices. It is not only for convenience that you should try to have all devices in one, it is also kinder to the environment.

And really, if you loose your phone or anything else you are not being very clever. Just install google maps with latitude on it and keep track of where it is.
