Apple: Marketing genius

90% of Apple's brand strength is perceived "quality" or "upmarket components" when in reality their components are much the same as anyone else's, just over-priced and harder to swap-out. It's the old adage of buy the same item from Jet Stores for R50 or from Woolworths for R150.00 (The Woolworths item is therefore the better item, cos it costs more). The people who buy into this line of thinking are grade A sheep. :D

I wonder if it has sunk in yet with the other, well established, manufacturers that the iPhone killer might just turn out to be the new iPhone OS?

Well Mr Otter, its a Software update that adds value to the user of the phone...
Any other manufacturers do that?

Concentrating on their phones they know that they need to keep their customers satisfied with their iPhones. Most people change their phones every 12 months, Apple need to have a better handset out early next year for their fans, this update will just keep them satisfied for now...
They keeping their customers satisfied.

But their marketing, they the best! Every company tries this, they do extensive reseach, surveys and hire the best companies to find out what their consumers want. Stevie boy seems to know what his people want.

Plagiarist, I already said that!:p

Just because your popular with the uneducated masses, does not make you any good. It just means you market well.

Take your pick of any Political party as example

The problem with your logic is of course that it is flawed. Jet clothes are of lower quality than Woolworths. The material (including dyes) and stitching in Woolworths clothing is superior and Woolies stuff lasts longer.

Apple often uses superior components or at least above average ones. Sure you can get superior build quality from say Panasonic but that still runs crummy old Windoze. So with Apple you get superior software with some of the best hardware, plus value added stuff (eg free training).

actually.. I was talking about the same item of clothing... but never mind.

How so? You described two different manufacturers.

I buy my legend T-shirts from Makro cos they are R50 there. I am not prepared to pay the R120 that Woolworths wants for exactly the same T-shirt (same brand, same manufacturer, same quality). It's stupid and over-priced. But obviously some sheep think it is better... just because it is sold at a Woolworths store.

The same is true with Apple. You are paying for the name brand, not the quality. In most cases you are paying more for less features...

Are you sure those are identical T-shirts?

Much of woolworths clothing is branded with their own brands. If you compare that to clothing priced at less you'll never beat Woolworths quality, in fact Woolworths may even beat 'outlet' store quality sometimes.

People often see clothing and say - it's the same, eg Ackermans, Jet or even Edgars but if you compare the stitching, dye and material, not to mention the style you'll usually find the better quality lies with W.

BTW the Lenovo - it only has integrated graphics? And no Mac OSX?

I agree the Air is not nice. As for the Lenovo, forget it.
Get a real Laptop made entirely in Japan.
3.3 lbs in weight, 189,000 Yen, about US$ 1950
SXGA+ (1400x1050) 14.1 inch screen, DVD-RW drive,
spill proof keyboard, drop from desk height while operating (70cm), bury it in snow, put 100kg on it,
no problems. :) (No one comes close to the build quality of this thing)

Actually you are right... Woolworths T-shirts always shrink and are never long enough in the trunk length. The Makro ones are better quality.

Perhaps?

Not taking Apple's side though, just pointing out a possible reason :D

LMAO another Apple hater... FAIL!

This pic is now redundant:
iPhone OS 3 now supports MMS.
It also supports accessories so manufacturers can make a videocall camera addon.
Memory upgrade is not an issue considering that the average user wont buy an SD card bigger than 4GB, the iPhone comes with 8GB or 16GB... but I won't be surprised if a card reader accessory becomes available.

Video recording is possible with 3rd party apps.

Jealousy makes you nasty... :D

ROFL

Hahaha!...:D:D:D

Maybe they don't shrink, mebbe you eat too much and down too many lagers? ;)

Where did I say I hate it? I said it was overpriced... but the same or less quality as anything else. Did you have a similar problem with reading comprehension in School? I would not say no if someone bought me an iPhone or a Macbook. Just unlikely that I would every buy one for myself. Next time try reading the post before jumping on the poster! ;)

The pic will never be redundant. That was how Apple released version one of it's iPhone... and the pic will always be relevant to that version.

ROFL, HAHAHA... and all that other crap.

Not hating... just stating facts... sorry you can't handle the facts.
