MTN launches 3G/HSDPA bandwidth carry over

Damn! Is that all? I guess the new slogan is CARRY DATA FOR LIFE.

Uploadin multiple bundles? What a trick- where will u get the money for two bundles?
I guess cheaper broadband or price-war is just a myth.

This is the SA telecoms industry we are talking about. We must celebrate baby steps. Well done MTN for leading with the changes again.
 
It's a sign that MTN are listening to us! We can't expect to have all our services and wishlists to be granted overnight. Let's see how the competition responds.
 
still no price changes or dropping of out of bundle rates took them two years too listen too us about the data bundle carry over how sad
 
I just bought & loaded a 1G data bundle yesterday 24/3/2009 at 4PM. I have used about 50MB already. Does this mean I can carry-over this amount when the anniversary expires and I still have data remaining? Or only applies for bundles loaded after midnight 24/3/2009?

I'm sure it won't be long until the price war starts again. The Seacom cable will be done soon and then MTN and Vodacom won't have a choice. At least the carry over of bundles is a step in the right direction.

Would have been nice if they dropped the out of bundle rates a little bit...

I agree. MTN made it clear that feedback received from consumers, including you guys, was the driving force behind many of these changes. While some guys may have expected lower pricing, this is definitely good news and is enhancing MTN’s value proposition.

Definitely a very positive development!
 
MTN does business the same way Mugabe runs his country Zimbabwe. Before the power-sharing agreements in Zim, he arrests the opposition leaders and then starts releasing them one-by-one to show that he is making concessions and the whole world applauds, why, we 'the situation is improving...' my behind.

So MTN does the same, do not give your users what they want and then add innovation by slowly (one month rollover after two years) letting them have what they want, and everyone is happy 'we are making progress....' by behind.

and about the 'big bang for your money...' all that means is that I wont drop my prices (since you suckers are still paying) but I'll be a 'caring' network operator and use some lubrication...come-on they're still screwing us.

It may sometimes look like some companies will launch services at a later stage for marketing or other purposes, but it is often related to restrictions on their billing systems or other backend systems. You can be sure that the latest developments from MTN took a long time to develop and implement, and as it is an improvement on services I sometimes fail to understand why people criticize it.

The important part is that they have made a positive move: Bandwidth rollover is something which many subscribers have been asking for. This means the competition must respond, hopefully with an even better deal. This is how competition is actively increasing the value proposition to consumers, and this is why these positive moves must be welcomed!
 
If you had any knowledge of the costs associated with building and running a major broadband network you would not be so quick to say that we are "screwing" you.

Constructive criticism is always welcome and MTN does respond to comments and requests from customers. As RPM pointed out we also take this forum seriously - when the comments are rational.

Whilst I'm not in a position to give you our cost structure I can assure you that you are not being "screwed" and that you are getting one of the best mobile broadband tariffs on the planet.

Well done, MTN. Everyone I know who uses 3G services wanted rollover. And sim farming is now a thing of the past. What to do with all those simcards now?

+100. Data bundle roll over should not be a feature, it should be by default. You by 1GB, you use 1GB.

Why should you lose your 300MB at the end of the month???

Can you imagine the uproar if BMW brought out a car that empties its petrol tank every 30 days?

If your prepaid airtime on your phone vanished at the end of every month?

If your bank account returned to zero at the end of every month? (ok, that would be cool if you have a credit card or overdraft, but for this analogy I am talking about a positive balance)

So please MTN or vodacrap, explain to us why you feel it is in our best interest for you to rob us?

I really don’t understand why you don’t welcome this from MTN. Even if your argument holds – consumers asked to bandwidth rollover, and MTN gave it to them. And now you criticize the decision?

It is a good move, and places pressure on MTN’s competitors to do at least do the same. Is that not great news for consumers?
