Although the agreement has been signed, the network and WiMAX enabled laptops will only be available in early 2010. However, the initial testing phase has been completed with very positive results. “Once these devices are available, the end user will essentially have access to wireless ADSL as well as the added benefit of quality of service management,” says Mohan.

IF you are refering to the Intel Pro Wireless 5350 ( of which I have spoken about here many times already ) -- then -- WHY only in 2010

[ Although INTEL supply the device , end users are dependent on the various Laptop manufacturers to supply their product with this device included in the build and the functionality enabled ]

Of course ICASA have to do THEIR thing and put THEIR little sticker on as well

In other words it appears as if INTEL is held captive not only by the Laptop manufacturers , but also by ICASA. Maybe the reason for 2010


This device is available and IS currently being installed in Laptops available in other parts of the World. See the offerings by all the major Laptop manufacturers.

AND not so major "manufacturers"


This embedded card also has a WiFi function which can be used in SA NOW


Please can we see the report of the very positive results.

Please can you supply one of these "initial testing" devices. I would like to do some of my OWN testing.

Does this mean that these embedded devices will only be able to be used with the WBS/iBurst WiMax product?

What if a purchaser wanted to rather use another SP for their WiMax connectivity?

I speak under correction -- but I think that the spectrum that SCREAMER "acquired" from SENTECH will also allow the use of these devices on their Network.

If you read the article it says a whole lot of nothing ......except that I-Burst and Intel both support WiMax technology. We'll send something through to RPM one of these days that says the same thing, ie. we also support WiMax

Suffice it to say that the technology partners whose WiMAX equipment we use also have agreements with Intel, and one or two other chip manufacturers, to make sure their products are standards based.
