1 Gbps and counting

Great news. Let's hope it can sort out all these issues everyone is having too.

1Gbps? 1Gbps? 1Gbps? Come on! People in Japan have that to their homes. It's been almost 5 years, and Neotel only have 1Gbps? The Seacom cable alone is 1310Gbps and they want to brag about 1Gbps? Sigh!

It's no surprise that everybody I know who had Neotel have already cancelled their contracts even after being forced to pay over R2000 for a useless device with no second hand value.

Sadly Wyzak, it is still something to brag about down here in the land that time forgot.

It's a pitty they cannot give me an internet connection after all that...

Considering they only have 100 customers, 1gbps isn't too bad...

Even though the capacity will grow to ensure redundancy and lower latency, it doesn't mean pricing will change unfortunately. *eagerly waiting Seacom* (even though I suspect we would only see anything AFTER 2010 because of the world cup)

Hows about a price drop

Now that you have reduced the cost of your bandwidth, how about passing it on to your customers?

Didnt noetel have 10Gbps or is that the total of the sat3\safe cable?

Did anyone else notice that SA -> london is 5x the price of London -> SA?

So why are we paying so much for our caps, especially considering that most of the traffic is incoming?

If it were the other way around, they'd charge us 5x what they are charging now

It means that Neotel are capable of providing what they have claimed to be providing all along.
i.e. They are kind of admitting to lying to us originally.

But, it also means that they have managed to inter-communicate with themselves (TATA).
Bravo!

With the availability of more international links pricing of bandwidth will decrease, what does this mean for existing customers? Also this actually doesnt sort out the over-utilization on the base stations - which should be a priority right now!!!

It doesn't work that way. It is not the price of the download/upload capacity.

If a company in London buys a link to SA, they pay x. If a company is SA buys a link to London, they pay x*5 for 1/2 the capacity.

Similar to the price we pay (used to pay?) for international calls. Everyone knows it is much cheaper to call SA from the UK than calling the UK from SA.
