Since then we’ve made enough progress to feel really good about announcing today that Windows 7 will be in stores beginning October 22nd.

Soon, customers will be able to take advantage of the Windows 7 Upgrade Option Program. This program enables participating retailers and OEMs to offer a special deal to upgrade to Windows 7 for customers purchasing a qualifying PC.

This is really good news and I am very existed at this!

I pray that this is affordable! I WANT to buy it if i can afford it.
Please MS please make it affordable on a normal person's salary :(

Does windows 7 give you that less is more feeling? Do you think they started with Vista as a base and just cut it down to size and optimized it? Or did they start a fresh?

No veg they took vista and sorted out it's main problem, speed. Vista was a great OS but sucked on slower pc's so they have just made vista faster and added a few new things.

Man, I really would fork out my own cash for this if they make it affordable. Here's to hoping!

I will also buy it. One license for my laptop and one for my desktop. But I aint paying R2k per license.

I'd also actually pay if I can afford it. But I think I'll stick with the RC until I replace my laptop, which should be before the RC dies next year, and then get it pre-installed on that, from the US and save myself some money.

My 7100 build is still free for a year:D

Am liking it enouhg to buy it right now. As everyone says, will pay if cost is reasonable. Piracy is easier than the legal route these days, less hoops to jump through. They need to make paying for software more attractive (cheaper!).

I wonder what their thinking is on 5*R1000 licenses vs 2*R2.500 licences with 3 pirates...

I've got 2 legal versions of XP.
One is still unopened.

W7 will have to be really good, before I buy it.

Thief. You cause the rest of us to pay more.

Yip...I am forced to use Windows so I don't really care.

The versions of windows that you can download are generally "cleaner" anyway with all the relevant updates pre-loaded.. much better than paying full price for a half finished product.

Bwhahahahahaha arthur come on now in fact if windows could not be pirated i can assure you they would charge double if not triple for it.

Very naive to think piraters are the reason windows is so expensive, we are the reason it is not 5-10k bud.

What do you think a monopoly does when in a position to rip people off? They rip people off, microsoft would without a doubt charge far more for their software if nobody could pirate it.

The RTM will be released before 22 Oct 2009, at least a couple of weeks before the official release date
If you have read the article you would've seen Windows 7 will reach the RTM milestone during the second half of July.

Vista is based on NT, and Vista itself was overdue for a number of years. It would be impossible for MS to start afresh in so little time.
