SABC blackout threatened

And how exactly are they going to pull this off? And how long do they think that people will switch off their TV's?

Must be the most stupid idea/threat of 2009.

Good question indeed! Maybe the Crisis Coalition will embark on a boycott under the banner "Switch off your TVs, its the right thing to do"

I wish the SABC would just die. At least I would not have to pay that forced TV license fee.

Kinda like saying I wish BMW would die, at least then I won't have to pay the forced yearly vehicle license. :p If our gov had brains they'd separate TV licenses with the term SABC.

Back to the topic, this must be the dumbest 'threat' I've heard. Would be easier to go pelt their SABC offices with eggs everyday since they pelt us with kark tv daily anyway...

I would do anything not to see programs like Generations on our screens again

Actually, this thread has just given me an idea. Come September this year I am going to clamp my aerial input shut on my TV and not pay the license anymore.

My problem is the R2bn they want. Hell imagine how much infrastructure 2bn can buy, or even better how many houses 2bn can build.

Gary : You'll need to get a letter from SABC saying that you've denatured your TV which costs R300... and I can guarantee that they'll lose it every year

Buy a tv card then you do not need to pay it hehe.

The TV licence applies to "any device" capable of receiving a terrestrial signal... including a TV adapter card for a computer or a cellphone. Sorry, you still need to buy a licence for that. Fortunately you only need one for your household.

You can read all the regulations in the FAQ on the TV licence website.

they are so mismanaged as are most government controlled places
