New ADSL caps and pricing

2 GB account holders will essentially get the same amount of bandwidth per month (3 GB), but will have a slightly higher overall cost for their service.

3 GB Telkom subscribers will now get 5 GB, around 500 MB more than the typical 4.5 GB where most users are currently capped. This compensates for the R 6.83 increase in line rental charges.

The truth! Thank you MyADSL!

great. those old lines costing us more money again. hope nyanda has a comment about this.

*sigh* So in the end staying with TelkomInternet is still my only financially viable option....

Kind of funny... Telkom: Offering you your preferred method of torture.

Sooo true! But now we must just hope that this "increase" from 2-3 and 3-5 will force other isp's to drop their prices or give us a bigger cap!:D

Sigh...

This sucks. I would of thought with Seacom around the corner the caps would of multiplied at least by 5 while pricing remained the same. I hope Telkom realise they are digging their graves even deeper come Seacom launch. Hopefully my words aren't a shallow threat =/

I'm not sure, but I remember this having been raised before.

Why are businesses charged differently for the same ADSL line with the same capacity that a home user would get ?

Why are they paying more? Is there a better quality of service? Is the service ANY different from a regular residential DSL service ... ?

Like I said in a previous thread, people whine and moan about Telkom and their prices, yet they keep using them. If you are willing to keep feeding the beast, then shut the hell up about the prices and quit moaning. if you want to moan about prices, move to a different ISP. Quit being such a hypocrite.

I see the same happening in Dubai where Business DSL is priced more than a Home User package

Etisalat Business 4 Mb/s uncapped R 5945
Etisalat Al Shamil Home 4 Mb/s uncapped R 955

Du Uncapped services (Home) ( I see they have removed their pricing for Business)
256 Kbps 149 = R316
512 Kbps 189 = R400
1 Mbps 249 = R530
2 Mbps 349 = R742
8 Mbps 449 = R955
16 Mbps 549 = R1167
24 Mbps 749 = R1593

Are there better packages than the Do3 package in that market segment?

I dunno, do your own research. Probably not, because Telkom unfairly uses their monopoly to undercut every other competitor. They are both a wholesaler and a retailer. They can afford to undercut the others.

Another good reason to punish them by not using them.

Eish. Telkom just keeps pumping that pricing higher & Higher.

Sure they increase the cap size a bit, but in return they take away the "lenient" capping. So from now on u only get the 3gig or 5gig... then yur stuck on Local only after that.

In this day and Age, with all these Bandwidth hungry applications i don't see how 3gig and 5gig is still relevant. I mean for Skype or any Video chat, people sending pics thats taken with 10megapixel cams to family's etc overseas. (Itsa Crazy - Italian Accent)

But ye, ADSL is still the best when u compare latency's and line stability unfortunately. Its almost gaurantee'd speeds 98% of the time.

I also got a Iburst account <--- Not that this is very related to the current topic... But it's a 1gig Package, but i download at least 4-5gig per month and its Mobile. (1gig at Full speed, Basically uncapped 64K speeds after the initial cap)

Telkom, more gigs please, less price <--- SA wish to Santa

My 2Cents

i think telkom is trying to squeeze out their customers while they can. :(

hope this telecom monopoly is over soon.

Seems all our complaining didnt help at all, I still stand by my statement before, we should never have allowed Telkom to advertise here at all.
They are the enemy.
I will NEVer buy bandwidth from them - I dont care how cheap it is.

We failed in our attempts to put the pressure on Telkom IMO

+1

I for one do not use Telkom at all. All my voice & data is with MTN. Yes yes I know there customer service is less than poor, but there covarge in the areas I am in is very good.

When Mzanzi gets a service provider that combines

1. Great Customer Service.
2. Better pricing.

I will stick with MTN & stay THE HELL AWAY FROM TELSCUM.

I agree with Marine1 - we failed to pressure them and then we still allowed them to advertise here - at least I know , I said no
