This is annoying me. It's happened for a few months now. I've purchased a few 30GB accounts for my local nntp, file share and office vpn traffic from openweb, but the first purchase for the last few months is cut off at 10GB. Checking the IS stats page I get a hard limit exceeded message, so it's definitely being added on there as a 10GB.

I spoke to colleague who also uses their local offering and during the month he also experiences this on his 30GB account. It's bloody annoying when you're in the middle of doing work!!

I've sent them an e-mail. I usually get a response by the next day. I don't call as it's just busy all the time. I think it's a 1- or 2-man show, or at least it feels that way.

Anyone having the same problem with OW or perhaps IS? Seems like the account is not being signed up as a 30 but a 10. Nice way to make some extra money. I can understand it happening once maybe, but for it to be a regular issue...?

Thanks. :) Will see what comes back from [email protected] and if nothing or not acceptable then I'll fire off to Keoma.

No, don't want his cell number. I'm already R61 out of pocket, not going to waste more money on paying mobile call rates. :D

NP :) Keoma is a great guy, but I think like with all ISPs, when the client numbers become massive, it is harder to live your own life and still be there for your customers.

I'll give him this...

He does try his best.

He is the most prominent ISP owner on the forum.

He was upfront and ahead of the competition regarding seacom.

Same thing

hey all pretty much the same here, why is this happening all of a sudden??

I have had the exact same thing for the last 3 accounts purchased from Openweb. I have enquired about it directly with Keoma and his response was "It is a Telkom Issue" Then when i enquired about it again yesterday when it happend AGAIN one of the openweb support guys came back and said that he would give me the link to the new openweb control panel... implying that it is an Openweb issue? I am getting sick and tired of constantly fighting with Openweb. I have been a supporter of theirs for a good few years but to be honest i have just about had enough. My biggest issue is that it takes so damn long to get a response and generally i only get one after my second or third email... then they "reset" the line and everything is fine? Wtf?

I had a mate come over this afternoon to borrow a cup of access. His Openweb 30gb account was hard capped at 12-13gb and not for the first month either.

He eventually got tired of waiting for Openweb to respond to his support request and went home.

Is this a complicated matter for them to sort out?

Well my account was sorted out in rapid time. Pleased with that, especially given the time of night.

However, as my thread's subject line indicates, it sure does feel like someone is making a quick buck selling off 10GB accounts for the price of the 30GB ones. Look at where you all are getting cut off. 11-13GB. Given that the IS tracking seems to be done once and hour and one can get 1.5GB per hour on a good 4MB line, if you run up close to the 10GB and don't get cut off you'll get close to 11-13GB at the next point the stats collect and the disconnect signal is sent. So it does feel like a 10GB account, no?

Hi The Rift,

This is a problem some folks experience in some areas.

We are trying to have it resolved with Telkom, but generally they do not understand a cap from a hat.

I do apologise.

Kind regards
MrBEEP

P.S We are not in the market to make a 'quick buck', as this is not a sustainable business practice.

Thanks for the feedback.

However, I don't see how this is a problem with Telkom when buying IS accounts?

Telkom still runs the physical lines, and NAS Ports.

The backbone bandwidth is IS.

Thanks for the feedback.

However, I don't see how this is a problem with Telkom when buying IS accounts?

yes, I know, but the metering is at IS and that's where the 30GB is getting cut at 10GB.

this happened to me in the past as well (a few times). nothing major though, a quick email or phone call and they sorted it out

i do however think more support staff is needed. sometimes an issue to get a hold of them

I just had the same problem.
Couldn't connect to my 30GB IS account from Openweb. So I checked the IS user stats and I had used just over 10GB and the usage tracker said my "Hard Limit" was reached. I emailed Openweb and when I got back from varsity it was fixed.
I was then told that they got telkom to reset my port at the exchange and this changed my account back to a 30GB account. How does Openweb even have to permission to do things like this when I don't even pay them for an ADSL line? I only buy once off accounts from them.

Still how does reseting a port give me more bandwith? Should I just ask telkom to reset my port when I use up all my cap? Something sounds dodgy here or am I just being silly :D

Same issue here. Emailed OW, had a reply within an hour, but wasn't fixed. Replied again, and within half an hour all was sorted.

Not too worried about the downtime. Casual users=casula prices.

As far as I am concerned, mission critical/business users should pay a bit more and get *better* support. For me, OW is fine.

I don't know. I can't see how resetting a port with telkom can give me more bandwith on a 30GB Internet Solutions account. If something happened that wasn't supposed to happen and they told me that I would be fine with it, cause everyone makes mistakes but if I'm being lied to I'd rather take my money elsewhere.
