World's cheapest car hits the streets

You forgetting the 'SA' factor which will make it ~35-45k

Apologies for the derail, but when will TATA (neotel) introduce the world's cheapest BROADBAND to South Africa????

On SA's restrictive labour practices and high import charges?

/and the bribes!!

I applaud Tata for doing this. It is good to see that there is a company who wants to mobilise people without them having to sell their souls.

I doubt this car will make it to SA, but I hope it does. Would I buy one? Hell no, I live in a hilly region and I weigh almost 100kgs! ;)

I agree with you, however, it is very doubtful that if it did come to SA that the motor industry would allow it to be sold so cheaply.

Just as the big grocery chains collude to fix prices, so do the motor manufacturers, and they simply would not allow a new kid on the block to undercut their vastly inflated prices I'm afraid!

The Renault Logan was to sell for under 5000 euros. When we got it here it was just shy of 100k. About double the price. All imported vehicles have about 32% import duties and then add to that 14% VAT and thats where the price goes to.

ok, so the car weighs 580 odd kgs. Has a 623cc engine producing a ball busting 24kw/33bhp and has a fuel consumption of 4.55L/100 km (22km/L). What is interesting is that it has a 15L tank (330 km range).

This means this poor car will probably keel over an die when you put groceries in it :p

Tata have brought down the prices of some commercial vehicles, but to be honest I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. A customer of mine bought one of their 3 ton trucks. Man... that was a joke.

Same thing goes for KIA. 100% rubbish, and if you're thinking of buying one of their "bakkies" check out servicing intervals and parts availability before you do (particularly the small tyres that go on the rear axle).

When is it on sale here? Any ETA's ? I hear that the euro/US version will cost alot more than asia zone, as euro/us have restrictions on emissions which will drive up costs.
