haha... this is more great news!

And I still maintain that Telkom are going to do something nice for us this year! Wait and see! This is the beginning of it! ;)

Isn't Seacom in the Tbits/s territory?

And also, if they're almost triple the capacity, they better give us some decent speed increases.

I hope so Gary
I'm optimistic for a change, because I see so much happening.
It's not stagnating, like a couple of years back.

Yes, Seacom will eventually end up in the T'bits range... but they will only start out around 400 gbps. They will not be able to utilise that full capacity for a while yet, there is just not enough demand on the continent yet.

Trust me... I have my sources. Christmas is coming early in 2009! :D

Was Reuben September acting Telkom MD/CEO and Telkom SA MD Nombulelo Moholi ?

The upgrade helps explain Telkom’s decision not to buy capacity on Seacom. Moholi says Telkom is “reluctant to sign a long-term agreement” with Seacom as the cost of international bandwidth is likely to fall further in the next few years.
Yeah who is going to drop prices - Telkom of course

Tel_con don't like the taste of long term contracts, better hope that old fiber can hold out

That's a lie, they have invested in another undersea cable that is on its way soon. It makes no sense to pay some one else for the use of their cable when you can use your own one cheaper.

Oh and another lie, they said that Sat3 was at full capacity, now we know that its not true.

I always believed that they are witholding capacity to maintain inflated price structures. Why make a million bucks out of a thousand customers if you can make the same million out of only one hundred fools?

Whoohooo some positive comments in this thread for a change... hold on, just dashing off to check outside..... nah, not snowing yet but I'll be on the lookout tonight! ;)

They were not technically "withholding capacity" - they gave the last megabyte to Neotel remember :D

This is an upgrade of a technical nature to the fibre optic technology. ;)

The article clearly explains that they're upgrading the technology so I don't think the capacity issue with sat-3 was an outright lie....er, did I just defend Telkom there? MW LanceLot it is GOING to SNOW.

I'm sure that they didn't invent this technology yesterday.... and Telkom said fairly recently that they did not have any more capacity

LOL!

NOW they wanna increase it's capacity when competition emerges. Just goes to show they've been artificially reducing the bandwidth throughput all these years, trying to brainwash us into believing we are starved.

I hope Telkom dies a horrible and painful death. Here's to you Telskum ..|..

I like Telkom.

gaming.do.co.za + SGS = awsomeness. Which other ISP's have done so much for us gamers?

I wont say I like them, but they have been unusually prompt with my requests the last couple of days.
