Prepaid mobile price cuts

I've been on prepaid for almost two months - I think I've spent about R250.

When on MTN, my bill was around R1,000 a month - near the end it was less because I tried to used the phone as little as possible due to their billing constant billing issues.

I'm in effect saving R875 per month by being on prepaid.

Lol, seems like MTN reduce their price, and vodacon brings out new products. Millions of people will not even know that there is a new product, or understand how to switch over.

Seems like vodacon is taking a leaf out of ibusts book: Bring in new, lower price packages, but don't migrate the customers, let them keep paying the high rates.

I cannot wait for my contract to end, I will be jumping ship to some other provider.
 
3.1c per second is still R1.86 per minute. And since it's an all day price, it applies to off peak as well. Still too high, sorry try again.

And 2c per second from MTN for on-net calls is still pathetic. It used to be 90c per minute not too long ago.

I've been on prepaid for ages after being a contract subscriber and I save a packet every month compared to contract.

When I need a new phone I just buy one. The cheapest Nokias retail for about R400, so using the financing excuse for a contract doesn't cut it. I can't think of single good reason for anyone to be on a contract anymore.

R1.86 per minute for peak is really good. I make 90% of my calls during the day, and I am already used to paying a flat all day rate (Been on Virgin Mobile for quite a while).

I might consider migrating to this prepaid package. My contract ends in a few weeks time.
 
Vodacom is forced by COMPETITION to lower costs.
3.1c / 3.3c a second.
That's R1,86 / R1,98 a minute.

BUT, YOU HAVE TO APPLY TO MOVE TO THE NEW PACKAGE.

I am in agreement... where in the world do you hear of people who are on a day to day basis getting better deals than people who are willing to commit themselves to 2 years. The system is screwed!

Yes, obviously the prepaid market is huge with all the stolen cell phones circulating in the market but why the hell should us contract people not get some benefits then. Our money can be budgeted for :mad:
 
The Vodacom 4u prepaid off-peak call rate of R 1.30 per minute to MTN & Cell C (2.2c per minute) and R 1.12 per minute to Telkom and Vodacom (1.9c per minute) is however cheaper than the new service.

The new prepaid offerings from South Africa’s largest mobile operators comes shortly after MTN announced that it has cut the price of its PayAsYouGo service to 2c per minute for on-net calls from 7pm to 7am.

Do these short sighted twits running these companies not realise that "deals" like this are going to effect them in the long run? Do they really think I'll be renewing my contract if they keep this up?

Vodacom introduces lowest Prepaid tariffs in SA

Vodacom, South Africa’s leading cellular network, yesterday announced the introduction of two new Prepaid packages, offering significantly reduced call rates for Vodacom Prepaid customers with the best all-day and on-net peak prepaid rates, available to the South African market.

From 1 October 2009, Prepaid customers can choose between Vodacom’s existing packages and its new packages: All Day or Per Second Plus Prepaid packages.

“While we have not had a tariff increase for over 6 years; we have heard our customers and are lowering Prepaid peak rates by up to 35%. We believe it’s imperative in the current economic downturn to give our customers more choice and more affordable rates.” says Shameel Joosub, Managing Director, Vodacom South Africa.

With the All Day package customers will enjoy the best prepaid all-day rates available. All Day calls are billed per second with an on-net (Vodacom to Vodacom) call rate of R1.85* per minute (3.1 cents per second), and an off-net (Vodacom to other mobile networks) rate of R1.99* per minute (3.3 cents per second) – all day.

Prepaid customers will also save with the new Per Second Plus package, with up to 16% discount on calls during peak time and a newly extended off-peak time from 7pm to 7am.

“The All Day package is very suitable for Prepaid customers who primarily make calls during business hours, from 7am to 8pm, whilst the Per Second Plus package will benefit customers with the off-peak period moving one hour earlier to 7pm, giving these customers the opportunity make cheaper calls from early evening.”

In addition to the two new packages available from 1 October, Vodacom Prepaid customers can also choose from Vodacom’s 4U Prepaid and Yebo4Less tariff options to suit their individual needs. Prepaid customers are able to ‘freechange’ between all Prepaid tariff options, every 30 days, by dialling 1181, free from their Vodacom cellphone.

I think honesty would have been better here and it should rather read... "we have decided it is time we ripped our clients off a little bit less than we have been for so many years"

My real point is that they're not fooling anyone by raising call prices by 60%, and then making a big hooha that they're reducing it by 30%. Inter-network off peak calls used to be 90c per minute just a few years ago. Now you'd be lucky to get that price for on-net calls.

exactly.. even the fcking customer care doesn't understand the diference between broadband 'advanced' and the normal broadband offerings.

How is the clients supposed to become informed? Lawl

If Vodacom-to-Vodacom calls are cheaper, then why do they have the same rate? You are still ripping us off.

Contrary to generally expressed opinions, the mobile terminating rate only affects the price of off-net calls, i.e. calls between Vodacom, MTN, Cell C and Telkom. Mobile terminating rates do not form a cost element in on-net calls, i.e. a Vodacom to Vodacom call.
