Eskom - The bottom line cost.

Ok so we have al heard that Eskom now wants to put the prices up by 45% every year for the next three years. So that's a total increase of 45 x 3 = 135% right?

So if youre paying R700 a month after 3 years you will be paying R1645 per month?
While thats a royal shafting on its own, unfortunately This is not so.

Bottom line.

If you are paying R700 a month for electricity, next year will be +45%
That's R1015. Plus another 45% for that year
Comes to R1471.75. Plus another 45% for that year
After 3 years it comes to R2134 per month.

Thats an increase of just over 200%

This while dumb ass fat cats who got us into this mess get more than 20 million in bonuses and Eskom shows a profit of R974 million for the year of 2008 we are going to have to triple the money we spend on electricity.

WHY?

To be really honest - I think it's a good thing. Look at the post above mine (by agentrfr)... we can let market dynamics take effect and we will certainly get some genius cooking up a wonderful little gadget that will power our appliances for little money.




Too bad it will break down every three months :( Gotta love capitalism :D
 
Wait till food price increase kicks in. I think Tito is going to be happy that his contract is not renewed. Inflation targets is going to be pointless after this...

We are in a world of hurt waiting open arms for us.

yeah, however, it will demote production, such as our Aluminum smelters, which will further pull the finger to economy.

Businesses will make less profit = unhappy shareholders etc.

What I can't understand is why they charging us more!? I mean honestly wtf? They are making a killer profit, and it's not like they spending money on upgrading or new power stations. So all they are paying for is maintenance of lines and the power stations.

However, maybe this is what we need, considering that we have had it very good with charge power in the past, so it will support more energy efficient and a more energy conscious mind set (which we desperately need!). Maybe we will have companies making photoelectric cells in South Africa, and we might see people going to Solar (SA has a lot of sun) energy :).
 
I think the above calculations are incorrect as the municipalities will add their own increase on top of the Eskom tariffs. Our tariffs went from 47c/KWh to 75c/KWh with the latest 31% Eskom increase, which is equivalent to 59%. The calculation is VAT excluded.

Have just been discussed on telly. Idiots want to increase 146% by end/new year. On a Question about gass prices it was responded to by saying that gas prices will have to go up too as otherwise the people will not use electricity and then they still would not make enough for future "expansion". By that they must mean "cars", trips abroad, corruption .... et al. Fsucking idiots.

We must call for a masive consumer boycot! Everyone join in!. Stop using electricity and let them fail. Let/force government take back the power grid.
Please help everyone, spread the word!

They probably also then will, based on the gas price issue, increase the tax on alternate energy or force everyone to pay for electricity anyway whether you use it or not unlike the newly proposed NHS. How to these dumb Fsuckers think the consumer will pay for all these extras, just because for years they did nothing and raped the cashcow while making a few BEE/AA ministers and their kin's/friends rich..

Time to look at moving abroad FAST!

Correct, even the so called service fee went up by about more than 33%

And just how the hell are we supposed to do that? I don't have the cash for a solar geyser, solar panels etc. etc.... If I had, I would have been "off the grid" a long time ago.... :(

Thats the problem with ALL South Africans. Never prepared to have some discomfort to make a statement or point. Rather carry on beign exploited to the end! Make a plan man, go back to the old ways for a short while till we force Eskom and their corruption down to it's knees. You have to suffer first to gain.

What planet do these idiots live on? Do they not even have a rudimentary understanding of economics? Are they going to try and increase the price of any product that could possibly act as a substitute for electricity? Wasn't the original goal to get people to substitute away from electricity to other energy sources to reduce consumption? If people use less electricity their capex would presumably be lower anyway as they'd need less capacity or does this escape them? What we need is a free market in electricity where any producer can come in and supply to whomever they wish at whatever price. That as well as an end to cross subsidisation, there's no reason why residential customers should subsidise aluminium smelters etc. Why is the price they pay for electricity a function of the aluminium price anyway, its a totally illogical system.

They have no clue what is going on. The gravy train , she takes them everywhere for mahalla, for free, gratis. Goverment doesn't pay for anything, we as tax payers foot the bill for everything. So goverment doesn't even grasph concept of economics.

Why must they even think ? They get payed, bribed ..so money is no issue for them.

I dunno about you guys, but my current bill is around R1200. How the hell do they expect me to pay triple that?
 
time to buy eskom shares. That way my dividend will offset the price increases. need to make some business in alternative energy sources
