The facts about interconnect price cuts

Cell C is therefore proposing that Vodacom and MTN pay the smaller operators a mobile termination rate of R0.75 per minute whilst the smaller operators, including Cell C, pay Vodacom and MTN a rate of R0.65,” said Reichelt.

Yet continue in co-hoots with your overseas (and even local eg Zim) conterparts and screw us 10 or 20 bucks a minute while roaming connection fees. (the guy calling still pays his R1,50 or whatever per minute and we pay the other R10 - profit probably devided between the SA and foreign colluding network).

I won't dare bring data charges ripoff into that!

They not called roaming agreement fees - the correct name for
It is raping connection fee with colluding networks

Drop the on network call fee to 60 cent per min in december and then drop every year till it reaches 25 cents per minute

They screwing us and bull****ing with R28 mil giveaways for summer

Their lateat actions just prove how they have colluded in the past and now abd still hokd the market at ransom. rapists...
go cellc ..dont agree with their rates... u will get doc support...
bast..ds..

well if vodacom and mtn agreed on 78c and ICASA says no, reduce to 60c and 15cents year on year thereafter... i say +1 to ICASA... but they have a loooooong way to go before they get into anyones good books...

They actually agreed to a price around R1.

i think vodacom and mtn will soon find that our current government get what they want
(good or bad!)

Go Cell C! Hope you guys win this! More competition is what this market needs so desperately!

Shortly after ICASA lashed out at the mobile operators in a press statement, MTN and Vodacom issued their own press statements saying that they have reached an agreement on interconnect rates and are pursuing bilateral negotiations with Cell C and other operators.

Good to see they're still not colluding on the pricing. </sarcasm>

The law actually requires them to "collude" as it is a requirement that they enter into an agreement to set the interconnect rate.

It is all quite messy. Maybe they should just outlaw interconnect rates entirely and make it a mandatory condition of all network licences that calls must be accepted from any other licensed network. That way there can be no question of collusion.

Un f@rking believable!!!

I hate MTN and Vodascum.

Do they not see how this is ruining their brand credibility with the average Joe out there that uses them?

I bet if you had to poll public perception of degree of screwed by these two, they would not rate very high on the public trust barometer... they would rate low low low and are probably despised by many users...

Tut tut, sight.

Thank you AKC and counterparts. Wonderful "service" you have entrenched. Self service to the max!

But I strongly think that we need a credible regulator (who does not sympathize with criminals, but with victims instead).

I dont understand all the excitement about cuts on interconnect rates, noone has mentioned what benefit this will be pass to the customer! Has anyone noticed that regardless of peak and off-peak rates MTN for one is charging R3.00 flat! this is where the focus should be. how do interconnect rate cuts get passed on to the customer? talk about being bled !

I already gave notice to MTN that I was cancelling my contract last week. Lady asked for the reason and I said because they were screwing us over with the interconnect rates.
