I have not used my Afrihost account since the 31st Oct. I had a few mb left. I am currently on my Telkom account, and thought I would look at my Afrihost account to see if I received my 2gb. To my surprise, almost 400mb is gone?@!?!? I havent logged into that account, so I wonder where my bandwith went. Can a rep please get back to me and replace my bandwith.

thanks.

Good luck, a lot of people seem to be having similar problems.

Thank you. Im not going to pay for a 2gb account where I only get 1,5 or 1gb. I dont know where it went, but I want it back.

THey have said they had problems....

Just PM Gian and get him to have a look at it... maybe he can post on the forum and explain what going on.

Thank you very much. I normally wont make a stink or complain, but Im really hard pressed for money atm, and I must save as much as possible, and yes, even though its only about 400mb, its still alot for me. I dont want to bother the owner, as I know they have reps on here. I did also log a ticket, so will see what happens. Will contact Gian as a last resort.

Niccia: i had a similar issue ... only that it was 40megs ... when the rep replied to me he said i over ran my previous months cap by 40meg and that is why they deducted 40meg off my account this month ...

Its starting to seem like the reason Afrihost is so cheap is because their subscribers are actually beta testers.

Yes its been said over and over ad nauseum that there is a chance you may overshoot your monthly allocation and then it will be taken off the next month. So you dont actually loose any bandwidth.

The reason for this is that there is a delay when the server checks stats or something. Im not sure if 400mb is possible but maybe. When I started the new month I has already used 10MB.

I seriously doubt whether Afrihost would intentionally steal bandwidth. They are giving what I consider a superior service at bargain basement prices. The only negative for some might be that they dont hard cap accurately. For me this is actually a plus point but I can see how others would prefer it.

Is it possible that you went over your cap on the 31st already?

Afrihost have said that they are having issues and cannot hardcap for some reason - then the overusage is deducted from the next month instead...

Pretty much the same response to my ticket as well - except I know I had more than 100mb left over on Saturday night (even allowing for usage report delays).

Afrihost had best get on the forum and explain themselves. WA has picked up a lot of fans over the last couple of weeks with the community beta test. Afrihost was also building a fan base, but this is going to dent their users confidence.

As the other threads are evolving, the sentiment is that users would rather pay a bit more for a trustworthy service.

Due to several posts of this nature, I also checked my usage for October and November.

October seemed to match fine. I checked November and it showed 49MB used. I still had about 500MB left on October, so it could not be over usages carried to the new month and I definitely did not use Afrihost in November. I only utilize this account once I'm capped on my main account.

Now 49MB is nothing, but I decided to look into it. I then checked my other pc's and found that my daughter were still using Afrihost (in stead of reverting back to the main account) and that the usage were collaborated by checking Bitmeter. There were some difference, but that could be tributed to lan activity as all the music are one pc and all access are done via LAN. So everything was fine. Maybe for some of the missing bandwidth issues there could also be other factors involved?
That said, if there is an issue it should be sorted.:)

it seems that if you do not DISCONNECT before midnight, when you do disconnect on the 1st everything for that last session from the 31st then gets allocated to the 1st

Yes they are offering data at a bargain basement price - which they have stated is effectively a loss leader funded by their marketing budget.

That said the fiasco of their capping process is damaging their reputation badly. Although minor overshooting might be acceptable Gian is on record as having said that in some instances their system was at fault allowing substantial over usage. I also understood him to say that in such instances they would carry the loss as it was due to their system failure. They do not seem to be applying this.

It should also be borne in mind that this is not a prepaid service with carry over of unused data. If at month-end you have not fully used your allocated data they pocket the unused portion. Taking this into account their attitude of deducting substantial overuse from the next months cap (or in some instances reportedly even the second month following) is imo completely unacceptable.:(

Considering that their cheap rates are an alternative to paid for advertising it seems to me they are shooting themselves in the foot. I certainly am finding it more difficult to recommend them and hope they sort this capping issue out quickly.

Afrihost is on the IS backbone afaik

dude. login with your username and password. i tried the IS one (http://users.isdsl.net/ ?) it didn't work. this one does.

Online Stats for : ???
Cumulative Totals for October 2009

Sessions 63
Online Time (Seconds) 2038850
Upload (Bytes) 738 601 515
Download (Bytes) 21 891 224 705
Combined (Bytes) 22 629 826 220

odd, according to those stats i've done 22 629 826 220 * bytes = 21 581.4841 megabytes where as afrihost says i've done 22 028.1900 megabytes.

a bit confusing

user stats via saix : 21 581.4841 megabytes
user stats via graph: 22 028.1900 megabytes
user stats via log : 21 581.8240 megabytes (21.076 GB to megabytes)

seems that clearly the graphical one is not in sync

The differences most likely due to cutoff issues - hopefully over time they should cancel out.

What I like about the saix userstats is that you can see details for each session - something Afrihost's clientzone does not offer - when I needed this last month I had to phone support and they emailed it to me.

Thanks again for the heads-up.
