No plans to sell customer base, says iBurst

They need to outsource their website. Its a shambles. One of the staff admitted that to me this morning over the phone.

I dunno, where there's smoke there's fire; I cancelled my month-to-month 5GB account with them this week.

They had a good run, but they're now lagging behind. While most ADSL ISP's are slashing their prices in the last few months, iBurst hasn't budged on theirs. R600 for 5Gig is no longer reasonable.

While they're busy retrenching staff and improving efficiencies, offering customers reduced pricing isn't going to happen soon.

Based on the number of replies in this thread, it seems nobody actually cares whether iBurst goes down.

You hit the nail on the head!

I've already switched from iWorst to ADSL at home. What a pleasure! Waiting for Telkom to install new lines at my office, then I can say goodbye to iWorst forever.

The best part about ADSL is the amount of support/service the various ADSL ISPs are offering, compared to iBurst. The competition in the ADSL market is great for consumers. They are actually going out of their way to get me as their customer. Email support just works, and I can even get my ISP to call me, and ask me what's the problem.

It's delightful shopping for an ISP, with the best price vs support vs reliability.

ADSL: + 2
iWorst: -2

To me it's sounds like a miscalculated F-up, no one want to touch the base, if they have memories they could have seen that coming. Nashuamobile stopped selling iBurst products couple of months ago, so I just wonder what the Jannie & his ExCo were smoking thinking someone will buy the base.

And didnt they just upgrade to new systems?

IMHO, I think the morale will be low which will results in poor service

selling its user base was previously a consideration in the restructuring process

Wow this company is going down fast

"We're not selling enough apples, so we not making money! Make the prices higher!"

"We're selling even less apples than before, we not making money! Make the prices even HIGHER!"

"We're selling almost no apples, WTF is going on?! we not making ANY money! Make the prices even HIGHER!"

meanwhile, other ISP's are making prices LOWER, and getting more customers, making MORE money...

Jannie, how much are you willing to bet Afrihost are making MUCH more money than they did before their price slash?

Just because you slash prices in half, DOES NOT MEAN your profit will be cut into half as well!

make it easy & cheap for users, and they will come - put on a lot of restrictions, high prices, limit the users, irritate them, and make it uncomfortable to use iBurst, and they will Run

You can blame their abysmal accounts department for a large portion of their woes.

I will really blame their management which failed to implement a proper billing system over the years.

On the other hands, remember that shareholders give top management targets and if they don't reach them they are gone

I did exactly that last week. I never thought I would say this but after my 5 year sabatical from Telkom, I found their service (call center and technical support) to be superb. In less than a day I had signed up and was surfing the net on my shiny new ADSL connection.

I was with iburst for 3 months... wrote the cost off of the modem to a learning experience. Never again.

hrm.. what would i do if i was in charge, would be an interesting scenario to think of. Based on the option of selling off customer base it seems the limit is retaining investment/value.

Agreed, I did roughly the same in August ... Iburst -> Telkom SA -> Afrihost ... best decisions ever ... and no more stupid dropping of the internet every 10 minutes :)

And wow, the net is super fast on my 4MB :P
I have a 20GB 4mb account, and it is costing R1k a month, but only cause of the data and the high speed, a 10gb account is nearly on par with iburst, and 5gb on 4mb is cheaper.
