Was wondering if its cheaper to have 2 lines one for my phones and one for my adsl? Also which is more reliable and better? Also whats the costs involved?

Cause i'm thinking of starting a business at home with computers, but been having noise problems on the adsl/telephone line.

Youll have to pay 2 x line rentals, where ADSL and your normal telephone can be run off the same line without issue.

If you are using ur telephone on ur adsl line, make sure u have a filter, if not get one. If you do and theres still noise, lodge a fault, they should be able to sort it out.

i got filters on all phones when experiencing problems like last night with terrible phone noise like a modem dialling up.
Ive been lodging faults and theyve done nothing to fix mine and my neighbours lines (they also experiencing problems been going for at least 6 years) :P

Well my mom pays other line rental so only have to pay one is that all the costs involved?

Got SMS this morning saying my lines perfect yet its not is their testing system outdated?
Also how does adding a new line work? do they use same box on the street as the other line?

To blaas was thinking of using one phone line just for my moms calls and using other line for mine and ADSL

Not sure if a new line works. But phone them up again and tell them you're still experiencing line noise. Do this until the line noise is truly fixed. You'll piss the techies off who keeps "doing their job" because they keep having to go to the exchange to check.

also, ask your neighbour to do the same thing, over and over till its fixed

i'll try keep pestering as i usually do to them everyday lol told the neighbour other day to keep pestering them even gave them numbers and everything

Pretty much followed all advice on the other topics to no avail

Very Frustrating that doesnt matter what line speed i'm on does the same

To put adsl on my new line do i have to pay transfer fee of my adsl to from old line in my house to new line in my house? or is it way cheaper to self install?

Try this:

Apply for a second, new Telkom Line, but choose Closer option 2 - it comes with free installation, and the monthly cost is about R150, about R20 more than normal line rental.

Once the line is installed, then see if the voice quality is better than your other line. If it is, then apply for ADSL, but tell them you want to apply for ADSL access only, and you will use your own ISP. Once ADSL is installed, get a 1GB account from Afrihost at R29 to use for testing. Test to see how good your connection is. If it is good, then cancel your old line completely, and just use the new one, for both Voice and ADSL. You will obviously lose your old number - hopefully you can live with that.

If it's not good, then something is wrong somewhere along the line between the exchange and your house, and all you've lost is about R180 (R150 + R29 - Afrihost 1GB, month to month account), and maybe a few weeks to a month of time, depending on how fast Telkom install your new line.

It might be easier to do this than getting Telkom to come and test your line 100's of times with no results.

well losing number i'll hate cause weve had same number for 22 years and dont want to lose the cool number sequence :)

Toxic's option will cost you money

And time.

Depends if you're willing to lose some money and time on an experiment that may or may not work...

What other alternatives do you have? Pester Telkom daily until they hopefully do something?

whats another option acid?

smash my box and line? (sarcasm)

That actually isn't such a bad idea. Take out the whole street's/neighbourhoods Telkom service - destroy the street box, and whatever wires you can get hold of. Then Telkom will be forced to do something about it.

Just don't get caught, and don't tell anyone. Wear a balaclava - or hire some iZinyoka to do it for you (still wear the balaclava when you hire them)

doubt i'll be caught at 1 am pmb is sleepy hollow nothing happens after 11 am lol especially the area i'm in so no need for a disguise lol

i'm getting a top guy to check my line on monday/weekend so if he still cant fix it i might go for installing new line idea

Good luck. Hope all goes well. Just remember, do everything month-to-month. Don't sign any 24 month contracts.. Too much is happening in the ADSL sphere too get locked down into a contract..

thanks and already in contract with telkom though but at least when telkom prices drop so does my monthly cost so not stuck to one cost and get new router when needed :P
