iBurst iDSL from R 29/GB, unlimited gaming @ R99

Bring on the competition. Now if only Saix/Telkom would actually separate local usage from international usage. I.e. using local cap doesn't count towards international cap right off the bat.. Would make gaming on the Saix servers better for everyone.

That and you wouldn't need to pay R99 as an "add on" service as to what iBurst is doing.

that is great news, so long as I dont have to sign a 24 month contract- I was happy with iburst when I was on it, and if I read the article properly those prices seem pretty good

OK, I'm not trying to be funny now, but I heard that iBurst is going to be sold for R2.5 billion???

LOL what i find funny is HTF you can game on iburst? The ping must be shocking.

Gary iburst are huge man, not everyone can get adsl and hsdpa/3g etc are also very expensive.

;-)

This is good news for the ADSL community as a whole. More options and products can only be a good thing.

Pricing certainly seems agressive too.

Let me get this right. You have to buy 5Gb of data AND pay R99pm to get this service. Whereas with Web Africa, you buy 1Gb of prepaid data, pay no monthly fee and get a similar service that will grow fast?

R99 per month buys you how much bandwidth on ADSL? 99/29 = ~3.4gb of date. Now, i am pretty sure ibust will not include teamspeak and such as part of the free data, so just how much data does online gaming use?

The big problem with online gaming is voip, not the game itself.

Nice try ibust, but FAIL.

I would also rather go with WA and get free gaming on local cap than pay iBust R99 2 game on their network :-/

Also think they should have used something other than iDSL seeing as it could be confused for......

ISDN Digital Subscriber Line (IDSL) uses ISDN-based technology to provide a data communication channel across existing copper telephone lines at a rate of 144 kbit/s, slightly higher than a bonded dual channel ISDN connection at 128kbit/s. The digital transmission bypasses the telephone company's central office equipment that handles analogue signals. IDSL uses the ISDN grade loop without Basic Rate Interface in ISDN transmission mode. The benefits of IDSL over ISDN are that IDSL provides always-on connections and transmits data via a data network rather than the carrier's voice network[1].

IDSL also avoids per-call fees by being generally billed at a flat-rate.

IDSL is not available in all countries.

ISDN digital subscriber line (IDSL) is a cross between ISDN and xDSL. It is like ISDN in that it uses a single-wire pair to transmit full-duplex data at 128 kbit/s and at distances of up to RRD range. Like ISDN, IDSL uses a 2B1Q line code to enable transparent operation through the ISDN "U" interface. Finally, the user continues to use existing CPE (ISDN BRI terminal adapters, bridges, and routers) to make the CO connections.

The big difference is from the carrier's point-of-view. Unlike ISDN, IDSL does not connect through the voice switch. A new piece of data communications equipment terminates the IDSL connection and shunts it off to a router or data switch. This is a key feature because the overloading of central office voice switches by data users is a growing problem for telcos.

The limitation of IDSL is that the customer no longer has access to ISDN signaling or voice services. But for Internet service providers, who do not provide a public voice service, IDSL is an interesting way of using POTS dial service to offer higher-speed Internet access, targeting the embedded base of more than five million ISDN users as an initial market.

STEAM content Server coming!
A steam content server is in the process of being setup and will be the 2nd service offering to be included in the FreeZone.

Web Africa ADSL subscribers will be able to download content, such as full games, from the Web Africa hosted Steam server without utilizing any bandwidth from their accounts!

^^WA wins

I honestly fail to understand how people tend to compare companies like iburst, which is wireless, to companies like WA, which is fixed-line based. apples and oranges. 29 bucks a gig beats the hell out of vodacom's 3G pricing. if this offer is on top-up basis then i'm seriously going to consider that 49 bucks a month data contract just to get the modem then use this offer as an add-on.

Was thinking exactly the same thing...

Asa gamer I have this sinking sensation that I have a big fat marketing bullseye on my back.

iBurst is also planning to launch its new ADSL service named iDSL early next year. The company announced that all subscribers to the new iBurst iDSL service will have access to the standard iGame platform and as an introductory launch offer will receive 1 Gigabyte of free gaming bandwidth per month for a period of three months.

iBurst does wireless ADSL? Don't think so. Apples and apples much?
