Gets popcorn ready.......:D

"Many people I know are frightfully attached to their iPhones. They treat them as if they were a peculiar and exotic lover, one they can hardly believe they have managed to seduce.

The finely calibrated minds at Strand Consult have taken this analysis to a particularly simple conclusion: iPhone users are, the consultants say, really quite nuts.

The Strand thinkers released an opinion entitled "How will psychologists describe the iPhone syndrome in the future?." It focuses on the sorts of people who buy into Apple's great success.

Here's a flavor of the somewhat-skeptical nature of Strand's feelings: "Apple has launched a beautiful phone with a fantastic user interface that has had a number of technological shortcomings that many iPhone users have accepted and defended, despite those shortcomings resulting in limitations in iPhone users' daily lives."

The consultants' likening of iPhone buyers to kidnapped hostages may raise more than the eyebrows of many an Apple fanboy (fanperson?). Indeed, it already has the Mac world aflutter."

Stockholm syndrome - he he, funny stuff.

The implication is surely that Apple has mugged millions of people with its beauty, dragged them off to a very dark cellar in some barren land, turned them into slightly bonkers Barbarellas, and then recruited them as soldiers for the cause.

This is the sort of thing of which the Church of Scientology is normally accused. But for some strange reason, it's a rather chilling but pleasant shower to read something that isn't mere worship.

Shooo!

Iphone bad.

Nokia good.

+1

Lol, well there it is people. all cleared up, Iphone users are delusional... ;);)

Indeed. Had the iphone 3g and currently have the 3gs. Its an awesome phone to use and I'll likely end up replacing it with an iphone again.

Using it mainly to vnc into work mahines and update some things. These kind of apps are not that available on the other phones. :)

Another "hostage" shame, maybe we should start at support group for all of you?

The results are in:

Nokia = good

Not much has changed lol:D

a response 'worth' sharing

So after reading the initial article, i forwarded the link onto a friend and this was her repsonse to the source article (http://www.strandreports.com/sw4031.asp)

I bet those consultants don’t have the iPhone and that’s why they won’t realise how great it is and are just jealous of everyone that does have one  Yes it has some shortcomings but there’s a lot more that makes up for that…so here are my responses to all of their “shortcomings”

1. The first iPhone was not a 3G phone: What do you need 3G for? You can easily use the iPhone without using a 3G network and anyway, 3G is not particularly widespread, so this is not a problem. [New iPhone user]Not applicable anymore

2. The phone cannot send MMS: There is no need to send MMSs, hardly anybody sends MMSs. [New iPhone user]Not applicable anymore

3. You cannot forward a SMS: This is a function that hardly anybody uses and was therefore not included in the first iPhones. [New iPhone user]Not applicable anymore

4. The phone has a poor camera: The built-in camera is perfectly adequate and the iPhone takes fantastic photos with its camera. [New iPhone user]Not applicable anymore

5. It is not a real Smartphone, it cannot multitask: The phone has all the necessary functions and the OS is technically superior compablue to other Smartphone OSs currently on the mobile market. [New iPhone user]I admit this does annoy me at times but what I must say is that I don’t think you can not call it a Smartphone just because of this – the features trump any phone 100 fold. What this phone does with 3G is incblueible – you don’t even realise what 3G is on other phones but now I realise that 3G is merely a portal and other phones don’t have the gateway to a brilliant universe  - im a bit lost on this one...

6. The iPhone cannot multitask, resulting in a great number of applications being unusable: The absence of multitasking is a deliberate design decision resulting in a faster UI. [New iPhone user]See above

7. You can not change battery on the iPhone: How many customers run around with spare batteries? None or very few. [New iPhone user]Seriously – this is not a shortcoming – they clutching at straws here – the only time I take out the battery on any phone I own is to get to the sim card – there’s a reset feature and a sim card tray so all is good

8. Apple decides which applications you can install on the phone: This is good, because Apple thereby ensures that you do not get inferior programs on your phone. [New iPhone user]There are over 100 000 applications on the store – I really think you can find one that you want

9. The app store is a closed universe: Apple knows what is best for end users, which is good for the many iPhone users. [New iPhone user]Once again I do admit that this annoys me a bit but there are ways around it to get to the US store which has everything on it.

10. The phone does not support Java, so games need to be developed especially for the iPhone: Java is slow and not properly integrated with mobile phones, games for the iPhone are much better because they are directly developed for the iPhone. [New iPhone user]So my old phones supported Java and I hardly installed any games or apps on it – I’ve have installed a lot of apps on the iPhone in the last week and the games are fantastic (graphics etc) and so are the apps – once again with over 100 000 apps I’m sure you can find something to meet your needs. Also, I now only play with my phone – this is making me a tad bit anti-social (yes more than the usual) but it’s because there’s so much to do

11. The app store contains numerous small trivial commercial programs: The app store’s large selection gives users the freedom of choice and the many small programs help make the end users daily lives more fun. [New iPhone user]Yes some are trivial but they fun and if you don’t want those then don’t install them – but lol – I got a zippo lighter on my phone and you can flip the top, switch on the flame, move the phone and the flame moves, you can even blow into the mic and the flame reacts – how cool is that. I also have a guitar and drum set and they play like a real instrument.

12. It is difficult to use the touchscreen for fast SMS messaging: The touchscreen makes the phone easier to use and you quickly get used to it. [New iPhone user]You get used to it quite quick and if you look at most phones on the market they’re now touch screen so you not gonna get away from that and the iPhone has an intelligent keyboard

13. The iPhone is a low technology phone packaged in a sleek design: Apple has taken the combination of the design and UI to the next level, therefore the technological specifications don't really matter. [New iPhone user]I wouldn’t say it’s low tech at all – see comment 5

14. The quality of the phone is poor, calls are often interrupted and network coverage is poor: It is a good phone, these problems are due to the operators’ networks and not the phone. [New iPhone user]I’ve had no issues but I wouldn’t think the phone would have that impact rather than the network

15. You can only purchase the iPhone from operators chosen by Apple: Apple has spent a great deal of time and energy selecting the best operators for customers. [New iPhone user]This annoyed me in the States because if this wasn’t the case – I would’ve had my phone in July already but I’ve always been with Vodacom so whatever

16. The iPhone is targeted at a niche segment and will not be able to develop further: Apple has succeeded in designing a phone for people that appreciate design and user friendliness. [New iPhone user]I think it’s been upgraded quite well over the yrs – and yes the aesthetics are nice 

17. The iPhone does not support memory cards: Iphones already offer the necessary memory people require and end users can choose between two models, one with a little memory and one with a great deal of memory. [New iPhone user]Seriously with 32Gb you walking around with almost as much memory as a laptop – if you want more memory my question to you is – pls let me know when that nuclear bomb is gonna drop and where so I can be far far away…or close enough to take pics 

18. You can not install your own browser: The browser Apple has designed is so superior that you do not need any other browser on your phone. [New iPhone user]The browser works brilliantly – you don’t need anything else…I also don’t see many other phones letting you do this.

19. You cannot use the iPhone as a modem for your portable PC: People that have an iPhone do not need their portable when on the move. [New iPhone user]You don’t need this feature with the iPhone it is portability in your pocket

20. There is no radio in the phone: You do not need a radio in your iPhone because the iPhone supports iTunes that offers almost unlimited music. [New iPhone user]iTunes and your own personal music library – that beats the radio any day

[New iPhone user]One other point that does annoy me is when you get a message it pops up on your phone so anyone around you can somewhat read it – including the <some bank> messages with my account balance on it – but I mean that’s not a big issue just keep your phone a bit discreet…

I don’t think you’ll get any one phone that’s 100% perfect but the iPhone damn well comes close and the issues with it are minor (except the multi-tasking though I’m trying to find an app for that). Also we’ve only counted 3 issues. There’s also firmware updates that can be installed on older phone also so you the new features that fix the issues and I really think the next one is going to be the multi-tasking issue…
